Deadly Date

- Vagabond's POV -

"Vileper should be here any moment now." I say to myself as I stand in front of the entrance that Ernst had cut out of the fence.

"Dandelion told Vileper that you're here, just as planned. Vileper is confirmed to be a block away." Emist said through the concealed earpiece I had. "She'll be coming in from your right."

Keeping my eyes peeled, I looked around for a yellow blur that emanated intense bloodlust.

"Coming in hot, Vagabond. Book it!" I look to my right and see her. Vileper running at me as fast as she could, knife brandished.

"THERE YOU ARE ERNST!"

I stick to the plan and run into the forest.

"Oh? Planning to join your rotting friends, huh?!"

I could hear her rapid footsteps behind me, not distancing, nor catching up to me.

"Back to our roots, are you finally giving in?"

I take a few sharp turns as planned, sharp enough to look like I'm actually trying to escape but not sharp enough to lose her.

"Your legs will give up soon Ernst! Just give in already!"

Once we reached the clearing, I turned to look at her.

"You stopped! Are you actually giving in now?" Vileper asked as she stopped, bloodlust slowly draining out of her eyes.

"I'm giving in. It's over, I'm done running." I say as I raise my hands in defeat.

Vileper lowered her guard slightly and began to approach me slowly.

"Finally, you're coming to your senses" She says as she draws nearer.

"Yeah, I've come to my senses and I'm giving in. Just not to you."

Seven standard issue Mk V units come out of the bushes surrounding the clearing. One of them passes me the rifle that Randal gave me.

"Piece of shit." Vileper snarled as bloodlust quickly filled her eyes.

"Try me." I say as the Mk Vs lock onto Vileper.

"ENOUGH! YOU DIE TODAY! ERNST!"

She pounced, not at me but at one of the units. all seven units immediately begin to open fire. I also open fire, but rather ineffectively.

Vileper picked up a rock and threw it at one of the units breaking its face screen. The unit staggered backwards before continuing to fire at Vileper.

Vileper continued to jump around the clearing avoiding the fire from the Mk Vs until she climbed onto one of them and used it as a shield. The other units ceased firing while the one that Vileper was holding flailed around in an attempt to knock her off.

Vileper pulled the robot's head off and the other units promptly began to fire upon Vileper again, myself included.

She threw the head at another unit. The Mk Vs shot the head apart and prevented it from hitting anyone.

Vileper then jumped towards me, knife out. I fire a burst near her feet to let the recoil raise the rest of the shots.

The burst managed to knock the knife out of her hand but nothing else managed to hit. She knocked me onto my back which made the Mk Vs cease firing at her.

Grabbing the rifle out of my hand, she threw it at the first Mk V she attacked. The units failed to intercept the rifle and the unit lost its other face screen. It was now effectively blind.

It charged at Vileper and by extension, me. I kick Vileper off of me and roll out of the way. Vileper got hit by the charge and got knocked onto the ground. She quickly began to move since the units began to fire at her again, the blind unit on the other hand crashed into a nearby tree, damaging itself beyond repair in the process.

"What a waste of good equipment." Vileper said as she grabbed my rifle from the ground.

She fired a burst at another unit which fell to the ground and was inoperable as three shots had landed in the chest of the robot.

The Mk Vs managed to shoot the gun out of Vileper's hands, breaking the gun and making it inoperable. Vileper then snatched her knife and pounced onto another unit, stabbing it in the face screens, breaking the cameras behind it and blinding it.

The units ceased firing but the unit Vileper was grappling jumped forward in an attempt to crush Vileper under its weight. Vileper ripped its head off and jumped off destroying the unit.

Vileper then threw the head at me this time. I managed to dodge it and pull out my pistol.

I fired three shots at her, one of them finally hit their mark at long last. Vileper screamed in pain as her left forearm got hit.

She grabbed her knife from the ground and threw it at me. It had just barely missed but it left a cut on my right thigh. Vileper then uppercut me and grabbed my pistol before firing two shots at one of the units. The unit fell backwards.

I kicked the gun out of Vileper's hand. She then grabbed my leg and bit me through my pants. I screamed in pain as I pulled my leg free.

She then pounced onto me again, took my survival knife and prepared to stab me. I gave her a left hook and she fell off of me.

She then threw my knife into the neck of one of the Mk Vs, fluids gushed out of the punctured hydraulic hoses and the unit froze in place.

Vileper then ran towards the last Mk V unit which opened fire at Vileper, grazing her right waist before she grabbed its arm and knocked the unit onto the ground.

Using a stone which was nearby, she bashed it into the robot's face screens while it attempted to grab her. It managed to grab her and throw her off of it but it was effectively blind. It then charged towards where it thought Vileper was and crashed into a tree.

Viper then grabbed my pistol and I grabbed her knife.

"How the tides have turned, huh Ernst." Vileper said in an amused, yet disappointed voice.

She then fired at me three times, two hit my right shin, crippling me. I fall onto my right knee and prop myself with my right hand.

"And just like last time, we're out of ammo." Vileper said, throwing the pistol haphazardly behind her.

From my compromised position, she grabbed my knife from the immobile Mk V's neck and swung it a few times to flick the fluids off.

"This is a pretty heavy knife. No wonder all your strikes hurt." Vileper said as she continued to draw closer.

I held her flimsy kitchen knife in a defensive manner.

She kicked the blade out of my hand, grabbed my chin, forced me to look at her and stared dead into my eyes.

"Unlike the last encounter where I was on my knees and you weren't, I'm not afraid to put an end to you. Now, I know I said that you'd die today, but I'm giving you one more chance." Vileper said. "Give up and give in, or die."

"Doesn't matter which choice I take, I'm still going to die. I might as well take you with me!"

Despite my terribly injured leg, I stood up and pounced onto Vileper, breaking my right shin in the process

"Asshole! DIE!" she shouted in anger as she repeatedly stabbed my back while being crushed by my weight.

"It's over for both of us, Viper! I've won!" I shouted through the pain.

I pull an igniter out of my right sleeve and press the button.
