"Hey there guys and gals, it is me, Donny G! I'm here playin the best rock and roll, from Elvis, to The Beach Boys, and even some of that british trash like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. And I'll be here till about midnight, playing the same great tunes, on the same great day, in the same great town. In Violet, it's a nice, sunny, 86 degree day, and if I weren't me, livin out my best life doin the best job ever, I'd be out surfin, or listenin to the greatest radio host ever, Donny G! Naw i'm just playin. Keep that radio dial right here, folks, on 86.5, KVCR rock n roll radio!"
The upbeat voice of Donny G blasts through the radio stationed on top of a toolbox. The song Purple Haze begins to play as a young man changes the tire of a Cherry Red 67 Camaro with 2 black stripes down the middle. That young man is Jony Curtis. He runs his own shop close to the suburbs of Violet. Not the rich boy, daddy's money suburbs, the Greaser suburbs. Where "his people" live. Yeah he gets looked down upon by the losers with a hundred bucks in their pockets all the time, but all that money goes straight into his pocket when their daddy's car breaks down. In fact, he's working on a car right now. Some shady guy in a big coat walked in and only asked for a tire change. Handed over three hundred and ran off. Jony took the cash and did his job.
As he tightens the last lugnut, a slender figure walks into the open garage door. It's some rich kid wearing a striped sweater and khakis, with his thick rimmed glasses unironically taped together. Jony stands straight up, puts his cigarette out and approaches the skinny kid. Jony's 6' 2" frame towers over the 5' 9" chump, who's weight barely crosses into 120. "Come ere, man!" Jony shouts as he pulls the kid in for a hug. It's just Leonard. Leonard Banker is the only okay rich kid, in Jony's eyes.
First day of Sophomore year, Jony walks in, and gets tripped up by this guy, Louis Franks. Louie was dick. Not even his parents liked him. He only got what he wanted cause he's a freak of nature and was 6' 8", 300 pounds, all muscle, while his dad was barely 5' 10" and weighed 100 sopping wet. So anyway, Louie was a dick and made Jony mad. What does Jony do? Jony kicks his ass, takes about 40 bucks from him and walked to class. Louie, being a chump, tries to snitch since he got beat, and everyone who saw gets called into the Principal's office, but none of em talk. None of em except for Leonard. Leonard says close to what happened, with the added detail that Louie kicked Jony after tripping him. After that, Jony tried to fix Leo's car, but all he had was a bike, so Jony offered to protect him from any jackasses like Louie. Over the course of 2 years, Jony and Leo are best friends.
That takes us back to now. Jony and Leo in Jony's shop. The shady guy's Camaro, and 300 fresh dollars in Jony's pockets. "Hey Jony, I got some bad news" Leo says, dropping the smile and getting out of Jony's hug. "Aight, shoot." Jony says as he pulls a chair around and takes a seat. "Dave Crawley went missing." Leo says. Dave was a sort of friend of Jony's. Dave's car wasn't exactly street legal, and that was thanks to Jony. In return, Jony got paid some of Dave's winnings in bets after the race. Dave was sort of an alcoholic, so after the race, Jony would hang out with Dave for about an hour, and ditch him once he got slammed.
Dave's sweet ride was a lot similar to the one that shady guy had Jony change the tires on, but it didn't click yet. Jony, while being kinda smart, was a dumbass at times, and this was one of them. "Well Dave's best friend is Tony Galino, right? Let's go see what Tony is up to, okay?" Jony suggests. "Sure. Tony's a big surfer, so let's check the beach first." Leo states as he sets his book bag down before Jony and him go walking off to Bummer Beach.
