Tears well in your eyes as soon as Amir finishes his sentence. You don't cry, though, you just sit there, staring at the wall in front of you as tears threaten to fall. You think back to the day they were killed in front of you; their blood staining your clothes. You remember it so vividly, and you just now recognize the face you saw. It was Vincent's. Your breath hitches at the realization, and you grip Amir's hand tightly, allowing the tears to fall silently.
"How- how long have you known?" You whisper, leaning your head on Amir's shoulder while wrapping your arms around him. He takes a breath before answering.
"I found out 4 days before you joined, but Brimstone and Sage have known ever since it happened." He says, choosing his words carefully. Your lip quivers as more tears fall. You close your eyes and lean closer to Amir.
"Why didn't you tell me earlier?" you struggle to ask through tears.
"Nobody wanted you to put the blame on Vincent for it. that's one of the reasons you haven't met him before this week." Amir runs a hand through your hair in an attempt to calm you.
"Why wouldn't I blame Vincent for it?! He has to have something to do with it!" You say, raising your voice slightly.
"Y/n, I can promise you that he did not have anything to do with it. He attempted to stop his double, but nothing he said worked."
"Why- why my parents, though? What did they ever to to Vincent- or- his double?"
"While your parents were on a mission, they killed someone who was very dear to Vincent, apparently; and his double wanted to be the one responsible for the revenge." You halt your breathing, trying to think of something to say next.
"Breathe, habibi." Amir softly demands as he caresses your face. You allow air to enter in through your nose, causing it to sting. When you open your mouth to release the air, tears pass through your lips onto your tongue. You lick your lips, ridding them of the salty substance.
"I miss them, Amir. I wish they were still here." You finally say.
"If only I was stronger, I-I could've saved them. I shouldn't have sat there. I could have done something, I-" Amir cuts you off.
"Don't say that. There was nothing you could have done. You were young." Amir says, using his forefinger and thumb to gently force you to look up into his eyes.
"I don't ever want to hear you talking in that manner about yourself again. Understood?" He says, wiping a tear off your cheek. You bite your lip and sigh, nodding your head.
"Words, please. I want you to promise me that you'll respect yourself."
"I promise, Amir. I'm sorry." You say, looking at the ground.
"Do not apologize, my dear. I understand that this information is hard to process; so if you ever need to talk, just ask." He says, smiling at you. You smile in response and lean into his chest, hugging him. You feel his arms wrap around your body, one of his hands on the back of your head, the other wrapped around your waist. The two of you stay like this for a while, enjoying each other's company.
"Amir?" You say, his chest muffling your words.
"Yes, habibi?" He responds, pulling away from the embrace.
"Who did my parents.. kill?" You ask, hesitating. Cypher lightly hisses as he takes a breath through his teeth.
"I believe that would be a question better suited for Vincent, my dear. He hasn't told anyone who it is, but maybe he'll trust you enough." You look around the room, pondering on what to respond with. You want to know, sure, but you aren't positive if you're curious enough to face Vincent. After about thirty seconds of silence, you just hum in response to Amir's statement.
