Brightpaw followed Berrypaw, dodging things swiftly, when all of a sudden she stopped. She knocked into Thunderpaw, who dodged Berrypaw as Berrypaw stopped behind Rosethorn. She realized it was time for the battle, since she could smell the horrid scent of DawnClan. It seemed as if DawnClan were not surprised to see them there. In fact, they were all in a line, right in front of the StormClan patrol.
Fear tightened in Brightpaw's chest and she felt a cold lump in her throat as if she licked the frozen cold water in leafbare. She looked on her left to see her fast and long-legged friend while on her right she saw her strong and determined friend, ready for battle. Brightpaw could tell she had the same look on her face like Thunderpaw: scared, nervous, unsure, and worried.
Within moments a yowl screeched and then Brightpaw was tumbled into fur, pushed by cats, and scratched by claws. The last thing she saw of her clan mates was Berrypaw's tabby pelt knocking into a pale cat with fury and Thunderpaw running swiftly around a tortoiseshell, dodging its moves.
All of a sudden, Brightpaw forgot her training and was knocked off her paws, followed by a blow to the shoulder. She finally had the chance to see the cat who pinned her. It was a cat she saw at the gathering, Ponddripple the deputy. She had to remember her moves quickly or else she would be beaten! Brightpaw tried calming down, she was going to remember everything she could. She was a good fighter, why else would Nightstar choose her?
"You're the rouge I saw at the Gathering! Why are you here you little kit. You are useless to your clan and everyone knows it." Ponddripple hissed, flipping himself on top of her, making her struggle to get off. "Get off me!" Brightpaw hissed, starting to not be able to breath. "Why should I?" He spat, digging his claws deeper into her fur.
Suddenly remember her training, she kicked at his legs, knocking his balance off just enough for Brightpaw to slid under him. She raked her claws under his belly, making him yowl in pain. She was free! But then it was time to get serious with the battle. She leaped on top of him before she realized the mistake she made. He rolled on his back, crushing her. Brightpaw dug her claws and teeth into his back so he could stop then leaped out of his way.
Ponddripple narrowed his eyes and for a moment their gazes were locked, enemy with enemy. Brightpaw panted, her fur ruffled and messy, but she didn't take her eyes off him. All of a sudden he lashed a paw at her, raking her side in hot firey pain. Blood gushed out her wound. He ducked Brightpaws blows then pushed her to the floor. Just before he could dis his claws into her belly, she flipped on her side, but that still made him dig his claws into her back.
"Beg for mercy, you kittypet." Ponddripple spat. "I'm a Clan cat now! And I was never kittypet. I was rouge!" She screeched back at him. Helplessly, she clawed at his face, scratching his nose and making it bleed. Before Brightpaw could put another claw on the tom, something knocked into him. There was a blurry brown fur and dark gray fur tumbling on the clearing. It was hard to see with the blood in her eyes because of the cut she got on her forehead, but she could tell it was Berrypaw because of her voice.
"Don't you dare touch that cat ever!" Berrypaw screeched like she was going to die. She was so loud, but her words were drowned out from the screeches and snarls of the fighting cats since they were rolling away from Brightpaw. They rolled more and more, closer to the edge of the cliff the camp was on, but then Brightpaw blacked out and fell on the floor because of the major wounds she got from Ponddripple. The last thing she heard was a screech and gasps of "No!", the voice of Berrypaw, though words not clear, sounding surprised and scared, and then Nightstar's yowl of "StormClan, retreat!"
