Seungmin clears his throat, "You'll let me stay with you?"
Minho is silent but only for a moment, "you can sleep on the streets."
Seungmin smiles despite the nonchalant answer,"I think that would still be better than the tower."A failed robber and a tower escapee come together through the power of rebellion and mutual blackmail to find their dreams in a small glow of warmth and lanterns,a lot of lanterns and maybe discover a new dream along the way that's solely theirs to have. - https://archiveofourown.org/works/33695455

FIRST LIGHT, LAST DREAM
20 years earlier.
***
Lee Miyeon ran away, from her homeland to a Kingdom across the sea,on the summer solstice.
Four months later,in the fall, she gave birth to a boy.
Red leaves littered the streets, nightfall came early indicating the onset of winter and the seasons of spirit.
Lee Miyeon wasn't a superstitious person by any means. She was a believer –true at heart. She believed in nature, stories and magic. She was magic.
She was afraid,not-afraid—wary of winter, of crossing paths with the spirits and of the eclipsed sun.
Her magic came to her when she had needed it the most. It wasn't flashy or elaborate, it was wild, healing. It made itself known-in the air and in your bones.
The same thing that forced her to leave her home and take refuge in a land, an ocean away.
She'd been apprehensive of raising her son in such a land but the first time she saw her boy, all her doubts were gone.
He was the most beautiful little thing she had ever seen—rosy pale and starry eyed.
She knew she would give her life to save him, in a heartbeat.
The sky had been clear and his destiny held the sun.
She assumed it to be the sign that would lighten up the dark and keep the spirits at bay–a natural protective shield.
Looking at him her own eyes reflected back, it felt like she could handle anything, she could take a hurricane – no problem was too difficult ,no mountains unscalable.
He was her star, her sweet boy.
A month before his second birthday, he fell ill to a mysterious illness.
Miyeon's days went in keeping the fever at bay and nights to soothe his pain and constant crying.
He cried in pain for days and everytime Miyeon felt as if someone was slowly cutting pieces of her heart ,relishing in the pain.
Miyeon had exhausted all her resources, leaving her desperate enough to pray to the gods that rarely listened.
In the north of the kingdom, a golden flower grew from frozen ground.
Three days later, the kingdom had celebrated the birth of their crown prince.
And Miyeon had celebrated her son's recovery.
The illness left him as mysteriously as it had caught him.
The sky had been clear, the stars bright.
A month later, the royal guards turned the kingdom upside down in search of the missing crown prince.
A year later, the King and Queen lit up the first lantern to guide the lost prince home.
Building a tradition shrouded in broken sorrow and some semblance of hope.
