chapter 3
Seungmin blinks his eyes open, awakening from a nice dreamless sleep, feeling warm and a tad sweaty, but in a nice way. He notices that Hyunjin has his arm and leg slung over him again, but this time he is hugging Hyunjin back and he is faced by Hyunjin's chest and neck when he fully opens his eyes. Seungmin flushes a little, but he's slowly getting used to being more affectionate with Hyunjin and receiving that same affection back from Hyunjin (but then ten times more intense).
Seungmin slowly slides away from under Hyunjin's long limbs, careful not to wake him up since the vampire looks tired, even paler than usual. Right, he's all out of food now.
Seungmin heads out of the bedroom carefully to check on the weather without having to open the curtains and waking Hyunjin up. It's not snowing anymore, but Seungmin can only barely see that through the windows that are mostly blocked by the snow that is piled up at least a meter high. He sighs deeply. Unless the snow melts at a rapid rate today, they definitely won't be able to return home to the castle, and they won't be able to get Hyunjin food. Seungmin has no idea how long Hyunjin can survive without feeding himself, and he wonders if he made it all worse by going out yesterday and needing to be rescued by Hyunjin because it would make sense that Hyunjin would get more hungry from physical exertion like carrying someone and running through the snow. A guilty feeling settles in his stomach as he tries to shake the worrying thoughts away and he decides to have that bath that he said he would have yesterday.
He breathes out in delight as he lowers himself in the hot bathwater. This is what he needed after yesterday. He is forever grateful that Hyunjin went out to look for him and that he found him so quickly, because otherwise things wouldn't have been fun. They already weren't fun, Seungmin had never been that cold before, he could barely move, barely breathe, but he thinks that his body didn't go too much below a safe temperature before Hyunjin found him already. And even though Hyunjin didn't really seem to have known what to do, he handled it well and Seungmin recovered fairly quickly. Maybe Hyunjin's warm words and personality helped a lot too.
When he returns to the bedroom to check on Hyunjin, the vampire has already woken up and is slowly dressing himself.
"How are you feeling?" Seungmin asks him, and Hyunjin gives him a dumbfounded look.
"How am I feeling? I should be asking you!" Hyunjin chuckles, but he still looks a tad tired somehow.
"I'm feeling fine. A good and warm night's sleep and a warm bath really helped along with you helping me yesterday," Seungmin shrugs with a smile. "I want to thank you again for that, by the way."
Hyunjin waves him off with an embarrassed huff. "You don't have to keep thanking me."
"I wanted to," Seungmin insists. "Anyways, how are you feeling? Uhm, I checked outside and we're snowed in. The snow is piled up more than a meter high."
Hyunjin grimaces and groans. "Ugh, that doesn't make me feel better, but I'm holding up, don't worry."
Seungmin frowns and squints a little, wondering if Hyunjin is telling the full truth. Something in the vampire's expression and demeanor tells him that he's underselling his struggles, but Seungmin isn't sure.
"Yeah? Are you sure?" Seungmin asks.
"Yeah, just a little tired and hungry, but I have survived without food before," Hyunjin assures, but Seungmin feels like he is omitting a piece of information. Nevertheless, he won't mention it. Hyunjin probably doesn't want to worry Seungmin, and it isn't like Seungmin knows everything about vampire biology.
"Okay, but if there's anything that I can do to help, please tell me, yeah?" Seungmin requests, hoping that Hyunjin sees that Seungmin would do for him what he did for Seungmin yesterday. "I feel fine, so let me help you if you need it."
