Take Me Or Leave Me

I walk into Middle C looking for Kenzie.
"Hi, Dani." Kenzie says.
"Hey." I say smiling at her.
"This is Heath." She tells me.
"We know each other." We say at the same time.

Ew. Respectfully. (I needed to use it.)

"I think Heath is the perfect duet partner, and both of you together can come up with an award-winning National's duet." She tells me and all I can think is how Heath has betrayed a team before, and betrayed me.

A duet with Heath the traitor. I'd rather dance with a donkey.

"Wait, do you mean he's going to join this team?" I say.
"We can talk about that later, but I'm actually going to go talk to other pairs for the Nationals duet, you can sit down, get to talking." Kenzie says. "Sit down and I'll check on you two later. OK."
"So, nice weather outside, huh?" He says trying to get rid of the tension.
"No, it's not." I reply.
We sit in silence.

Heath: I know this won't be easy, nut it's worth it. I want to do everything I can to make things right with The Next Step. And also, especially with Dani.
(First change of talking heads since the Jude's in the first episode O.M.G)

"You know, we can do some pirouettes." I suggest.
"Yes." Heath agrees without hesitation.
"Tricking part." I say.
"OK, good idea. Good idea." He agrees.
"You know, I think some hip-hop would be cool." I say.
"Yeah." He continues to agree. "My favourite style."

Heath: My plan is just to say yes to everything she says, and then she'll have to like me again.

Doesn't Heath have any of his own ideas to add? Like, sheesh, grow a spine.

"You know, or we could just, like, lay on the floor for an hour and do nothing, right?" I say.
"Innovative." He agrees wow. "I've never thought of that. That's genius."
"I actually find it so weird how you're like agreeing with everything I'm saying right now."
"I just want to do what you want to do."
"I just want to make a good duet."
"Great. Me too. Let's do that."
I sigh.

Heath: Kenzie says that this is a trial period for me today on A-Troupe. If Dani has anything to say about it, I won't last one day on this team. Especially as they are friends with over half of the team.

"I don't understand." He says. "Do you have a problem with me or something?"
"Actually, I do have a problem. Honestly, I don't trust you one bit after the mole thing and that I was singled out of my Troupe because of that. And you're being way too nice right now. And that's probably how you fooled your entire team. And I'm not falling for it. So I'm going to go to Kenzie and see if I can get a new duet partner." I say before I get up to leave. "OK? Thanks. Bye."
I leave him alone there.

Heath: I have to make this work with Dani today, or else my trial period is over and I am off the team.

I am now alone dancing in Studio A.

Kenzie said no when I asked for a new partner. But I'm starting to feel like no partner is better than Heath.

Heath walks in and I turn around.
"I want to make this work because I trust Kenzie's instincts. If she says that we'll be great partners the I believe her. But partners have trust, and that's something we just don't have right now. So You can trust me." (Role the credits they said the thing.)
"I don't think I can, you betrayed my trust when I found out you were the mole."

Heath: I get why Dani doesn't trust me. Honestly, if I were in her shoes, I probably wouldn't trust me either. But, we have to make this work.

"What's it going to actually take for you to trust me?"
"Well, the only thing I know is true about you is that you betrayed your friends. So how will I know that you won't do that to your new team? To me again?"
"Because if we don't make this work, then I never get to make up for what I did to my team or to you. And, if I never do that, then the traitor you see me as is who I'm going to be forever."
"OK, well, it's not my job to help you fix your reputation."
"I'm not asking for a hand-out. I'm just trying to get on one dance for Nationals and not be alternate. Something you got to do too."

Heath is right. I'd love to be in a National's dance. We need to make this work.

"Well, I mean, I guess you have a point."
"My fate is in your hands."
"I got an idea."

Maybe fighting with Heath is not the problem. Maybe fighting with Heath is actually the solution. This has got to work.

I thought about it and however much I want Heath off this team, I want to be in a Nationals duet even more.

I walk in with some martial arts equipment in and it freaks Heath out.
"Woah, whoa. What is this about?"
"Well, before my leg was broken I also used to train in martial arts, so I got the permission to bring these from home." I show him them. "And, you know, I figured if we're not going to be friends, we might as well use our opposing forces for this dance. Thoughts?"
"Lead the way."
"Great."

Heath: I think I'm going to let Dani take the lead on this one, because I definitely have no idea what I'm doing.

"Here." I throw one at him. "Nice. OK, we're going to start off, hands up." I show him and he copies me. "Yep."
"Okay."
"And then we're going to go one." I move it towards the frount.
"One." He copies.
"Two, three." We keep doing the same thing, me going a bit fast.
"Whoa! One more time."
"Just slam it down." I show him slower.
"Three."
"Three."
"And four."
"Four."
"Got it?"
"Yeah. Are you sure about this?"
"Trust me."

Heath: OK, it finally seems like Dani's willing to work with me. Maybe we'll have something to show Kenzie after all.

I don't know if we're going to get the duet spot, but we're definitely going to fight for it.

We are watching Izzy and Antony's duet, the pair are amazing. This is one of the reasons why I became friends with them. They are impressing Kenzie.
"Oh, yeah." Izzy say.
"Hey, let's go." Antony replies.
Kenzie claps and we switch places with the pair.

Heath: After everything we went through today, I hope that this duet proves that I deserve to be here. And gains even a little bit of Dani's trust back.

We are doing the dance and the tension adds to the story.

Heath: I hope we've done enough with this dance because it's not only is the Nationals duet on the line, but so's my future as a dancer at The Next Step. I need this dance to be the first part in my new story. And I would like Dani to be there with me.

This is the moment of truth. I never would have chosen Heath as a duet partner, but I hope our duet gets chosen for National's.

"Antony and Izzy, your chemistry's unmatched, but this duet is so different." Kenzie says turning to us. "Listen, I don't know who paired you guys but, but she must be brilliant."
"It was actually mostly Dani's choreography." Heath says looking at me and smiling. (With love in his eyes but Dani doesn't know that, yet.)
"Well, that's great, because I'm taking this one to Nationals." She says and we smile about it.

Heath: This is a dream come true. And I finally have my chance to redeem myself. To the new team, to my old team and to Dani.

This is amazing. I'm in the feature duet for Nationals. The bad news Heath is in it too. But, I can get past that. Maybe.

"Take some time, work out the kinks because it need to be perfect before we represent The Next Step." Kenzie tells us. "OK?"
"OK." We both reply.
"Oh, and, Heath, your trial period is over." Kenzie says and he gets excited.

Congratulations, I guess. He better not mess this up for us.

Heath: I have a long way to go before I'm accepted on this team. Dani's made that very clear, but I'm not going to stop trying until I prove to her and everyone that I can help this team get to Nationals and win.
