I groan. My head is pounding. Everything was a blur. The last thing I remember was Ward carrying me. Bleeding. Wait. I sat up, looking down at myself and slipped my hand through the top of my shirt to feel around my shoulder. I frowned, I didn’t feel stitches. I didn’t even feel any type of skin graft or bandages. I pulled down the collar to see that my shoulder was perfectly okay. Pale, but okay.I was dressed in blue rather comfortable pants, a white tee and a blue sweater. My hair was up in a ponytail and I was in a white room with glass walls surrounding me. A cage. “Ward?!” I called out, fear instantly filling me. I rushed to the glass walls and banged on them. “Someone get me out of here!”
“Hey calm down princess.” A smooth accent spoke. Pietro Maximoff walked in, dressed in sports trousers. “Everything is going to be fine.”
“FINE?!” I yelled in outrage, backing away from the glass a little to give it another bang. “Where the hell am I?!”
“Veronica!” I whirl around at the familiar sound of Ward's voice. He ran in and approached the glass, and for once I was relieved to see him again. I rushed to the glass to meet him, pressing our foreheads together against the glass. Pietro cringed awkwardly. “I'll leave you and your boyfriend alone.”
“He’s not my boyfriend.”
“She’s not my girlfriend.”Pietro nods. “Okay then.” The assumption makes my skin crawl. I backed away just a step. Ward was an addiction, a romance I somehow found myself in because of some rebellion I had when I was in university. It's how we met.
"Ward what the hell happened?" I asked, my words racing over the other. "I barely remember anything and-" I paused to bang on the glass walls again. "Why the hell am I in here?!"
"I'm going to get your father and Dr. List." Ward told me and I would have begged him not to, to just get me the hell out of here but he was already running away. "To be perfectly clear," spoke Pietro. "You scared a lot of people."
I crossed my arms across my chest defensively. I doubted that. Dad doesn't care, Werner is I hope still being protected now that HYDRA was discovered. Oh my God. "How long have I been here?" I asked him, the fear in my voice evident.
"3 days." Pietro informed me. 3 days? God what have I missed since then? I looked around the room trying to spot something I could use to connect to the internet but this glass cage had nothing but the bed I was just in and a toilet. Such privacy.
"What are you doing here?" I questioned. "I don't know you, you don't know me but you're still here."
Pietro shrugged. "What can I say? I like a pretty face." I rolled my eyes. Great, he's one of those. A flirt. A player.
"Stop flirting with her." Ordered Dad as he came in alone. I have no doubt he asked Ward to stay away. And that can only mean one thing. "So nice of you to play father." I said, it was hard not to sound mildly sarcastic.
I stormed up to the glass and glared at my father. "Let me the hell out of here."
Dad sighed. "I'm afraid I can't do that dear."
"Why the hell not?!"
Dad turned to face Pietro with a stern look. "Leave us." I kept my arms crossed, watching as Pietro walked away. Dad turned back to face me. "Veronica, I did what I had to do to save you."
"I'm sorry, do you want a thank you?!" I snapped. "What did you do to me? Medically speaking I should be dead!"
"But you aren't." Dad pointed out the painfully obvious. "The scepter changed your biology. Your cells can now lower the kinetic energy in atoms and reduce the object to a low temperature."
