Once we got food, Atticus led me a ways from the cafeteria. Supposedly his friend group hung out away from the masses, I couldn't blame them since it was a little crowded.
As we approached a group of students that stood put from the rest, I grew nervous in hopes they wouldn't immediately dislike me. Vulpix seemed to sense my anxiety, giving my cheek a lick as if comforting me.
A younger boy with pink-blonde hair and a tidy uniform sat next to a girl with red and blonde hair and a rather intimidating look. Beside them was a dark brown haired boy on his laptop, next to an athletic looking girl with almost white hair.
When we got close enough, the young boy glanced up. "Hello atticus.. who's this you've brought with you?" He asked. His voice was well mannered, maybe from a stricter family?
At his question, all their eyes were on me. I reflexively stood behind atticus, hands gripping the hem of my shirt as my heartbeat quickened.
"Now now my friends, you're frightening her." Atticus playfully scolded. I heard muttered apologies, and atticus gently pushed me out from behind him.
Their gazes looked curious yet wary, eyeing me and vulpix. "Excuse me miss, is that a vulpix?" The youngest one asked. Atticus gave me a look. "You can tell them what you've told me, they don't bite, milady."
At his prompting I nodded. "This is an alolan vulpix.. an ice type." I said, trying to look confident yet avoiding eye contact. "They're from where I'm from.. alola."
The boy's eyes seemed to sparkle. "It's very cute. My name is Ortega, miss." He introduced himself. This boy seemed like a ray of sunshine, almost like a younger sibling I didn't have.
"Well then, the rest of you should familiarize yourself with our new friend, should you not?" Atticus mused.
"Mela." The red haired girl gave me a look, seemingly still on edge. "Nice to meet you."
"Name's Giacomo, or you can call me Dj vice. Whatever suits your vibe." The dark haired boy gave a grin before refocusing on his laptop.
The girl next to him stood up, easily taller than me. I almost flinched, trying not to get anxious. Then, she held out a hand with a soft smile. "My name is Eri, it's nice to meet you."
"I'm y/n, it's a pleasure to meet you all!" I smiled back.
And that, was the first of many days I spent with my close friends.
