"Alright girls, we have visitors! Time to wake up!" A voice cooed from down the hall. The clicking of heels came towards our dormitory rooms and my door burst open. "Get up, lazy girl!" The voice turned nasty and I groaned, rolling over. "Five more minutes..." I moaned. "No! Get your useless self up; we have visitors!" The orphanage patron, Mrs. Hill, snarled at me in disapproval. Her voice turned sweet again as she continued down the hall to the other girls.
I dragged my legs out from underneath the covers of my tiny bed and shivered as my feet hit the cold floor, slowly hoisting myself upright. I stretched my arms out and yawned, scratching the back of my neck and walking over to my chest-of-draws.
I stared at the unattractive face in the mirror. Her face was blotchy and pale, eyeliner all over the place and long, dark red hair in knots. I pulled a drawer open and grabbed a pair of worn neon-green skinny jeans and pulled them over my horribly marred legs, fingers brushing against the thick scars. I sighed.
I pulled a Black Veil Brides t-shirt on over my white lace bra, tugging it down and sliding a sharply spiked belt over my waist, on an angle so that the chains hung low. I tucked my phone into the middle of my bra.
. I grabbed my hairbrush and started the grueling task of brushing my knee-length, dyed dark red hair, lazily throwing it up into a high ponytail and grabbing my liquid eyeliner.
"Hurry up!" Mrs Hill bawled through my doorway.
"Hn." Was my only reply. That's all I ever said, really. I quickly stretched my Deathly Hallows choker on over my pale, skinny neck.
I pulled on my grey combat boots before hurrying downstairs, hopping down the staircase, my hand ghosting over the banister. I almost tripped on the last step and stumbled over to the line of girls. The oldest girl, Katherine, threw me a disgusted look as I sidled into line beside her,
"Now that she's joined us," Mrs Hill glared at me, " we can continue."
She click-clacked over to the door and pulled it open, letting the first couple in. They looked like they had far too much money too spare as they cast their eyes over us.
The woman was tall and elegant, huge high heels bending her ankles unnaturally and her tiny red dress barely reaching her mid-thigh. The man stood in a suit and polished shoes, hair combed with gel.
We began to introduce ourselves one by one, twenty four of us in total.
"Hi there! My name is Alice! I am eleven turning twelve, and I love for white horses!"
"Madam, sir, nice to meet you. I'm Deanna, and I love to sing. I'm sixteen years old."
Each girl introduced herself differently and it finally reached Katherine and I. "Hello!" The blonde snob drew out the 'o'. "My name is... Katheriiine! I just love your outfit, miss! I'm fifteen and a half." She said, all too bubbly. I mentally snorted.
They turned to me and I could tell that the woman already disapproved.
"Skylar. Fourteen turning fifteen. I like music." Was all I mumured
They turned away and Mrs Hill gave them three or four folders. They left without a word and the next person came in- a young lady in a tube top and shorts.
After her, only one more pair came in. The man wore black skinny jeans and a Misfits shirt, and the woman was wearing a black singlet, grey skinny jeans and a grey beanie. I recognized them instantly and gaped in shock.
Jinxx's eyes skimmed along the line of girls until they landed on my t-shirt. A grin formed on his face and he nudged Sammi impatiently. We all introduced ourselves for the third time, most of us a lot less enthusiastic.
Except me, of course. I was in shock." S-Skylar. I'm fourteen turning fifteen and your band is my life." I stumbled nervously. Jinxx and Sammi smiled at each other and Mrs Hill handed them a few files, all of which were turned away. Sammi Interrupted the patron's protests. "We'd like to see Skylar's, thanks." She said coolly.
Mrs Hill stared at them for a few moments before moving her fat body towards the desk, shuffling all the files to try and find mine. It hadn't been asked for for three years.
We were all dismissed and I turned around to sprint up the stairs, biting down on my hand to stop myself from passing out.

Mrs Hill stood in my doorway and I took out an earphone, laying speadeagled on my bed. "Pack your bags, you leave in a half hour."
I couldn't believe my ears. Five years in this hellhole and I was finally getting out!
"Who?" I asked. She replied, "Mr and Mrs Doll." Then walked away.
For the second time that day, I was speechless. Someone knocked on my doorway and Alice shuffled into my room. She was crying.
"Hey, honey. What's wrong?" I asked, growing concerned and sitting up.
"They're taking me away. The lady in the dress." She sniffled. "I have to leave you here." Her shoulders shook.
"But honey, that's great news! You get to leave all the mean girls and that horrible Mrs Hill!" I smiled at her and pulled her over for a hug.
She jumped up and wrapped her arms around my neck, crying a little more. "But you'll be alone!"
"Honey, you know the last two people who came in? The ones dressing like me?" I asked, turning my head to look at her. She nodded into my collarbone.
"They're adopting me. I have to pack my things and leave in thirty minutes." Alice let me go and looked at me.
"Will you come say goodbye?" She asked, wiping her eyes.
"Of course! I'll come right now." I smiled.
When Alice arrived here last year, she was quiet, sad, and lonely. Her father had murdered her mum, then shot himself and left her all alone at the age of nine. I'd taken her under my wing and helped her recover and fit in.
We were all we'd had.
Alice nodded, took my hand and we walked outside to where a shiny silver Volvo was waiting. Her bags were already in there.
She turned to me and hugged me again. My eyes watered.
"Bye, Skylar." She whispered.
"Goodbye, Alice honey. Take care." I walked her to the car and helped her in before turning to the passenger front door and rapping my knuckles on the window. The glass slowly rolled down, revealing the pretty face of Alice's new mother.
"You take good care of my baby girl, you hear?" I demanded. They both nodded and I smiled, satisfied. I stepped back and the car began to pull away. I waved at Alice and a tear spilt down my face as she slowly disappeared. I hurriedly wiped it away and went back inside to pack my belongings.
Sammi Doll had already done it and I blinked. "I- you didn't have to!" I protested.
"I had to let you see your friend." She smiled softly. I smiled back and someone sneered from across the hall."Ew, look! Emo overload!" Katherine sniggered. "One emo plus two more! Gross!"
"Well, you see Katherine, I'm the one walking out of this place, and, oh! You'll still be here! Would you look at that!" I giggled
a retort. My nerves where still sensitive from Alice.Sammi picked up my suitcase and I grabbed my art supplies, canvases and a small wooden box.
"Shall we go?" She said, fixing her beanie. I stuffed my eyeliner into my bra with my phone and spare earphones.
"We shall." I agreed eagerly. We walked outside and put my things in the waiting car. I turned around and hugged Sammi. "Thank you." I murmured.
"Do I get one?" Jinxx stood behind me and I let Sammi go to hug him.
"Thanks for getting me out of this place." I whispered. He hugged back. "You're very welcome."
We eventually got into the car and started to drive away, I didn't even bother looking back.
I didn't think this day would ever come.
