Someone shook my shoulder violently and I rolled over, expecting more bed. Instead, I met with thin air and thumped to the ground, my blankets tangled around me legs.
"Who is it?" I moaned unhappily, my eyes still closed as I untangled myself. "It's Sammi. It's almost nine oclock; it's time for you to get up. In an hour and a bit i'm taking you to go see the principal of a nearby high school." As soon as she mentioned school, I rubbed my eyes and looked at her blearily. "Mk then. Why?" I asked I stretched my arms out and she replied," because it's halfway through the year and it's too late to enroll online and shit, so you gotta see the head guy."
"Fair enough. Do I have to wear something specific?" I started making my bed. Sammi shook her head. "Not really. Just don't wear anything offensive, and no heavy makeup, was what they said. So don't go and put on shitloads of foundation and eyeshadow and blush like you usually do, cheerleader." She teased and I hit her arm playfully. "As if!" I laughed. "I'm really hungry." My stomach growled in agreement." May I please raid your fridge?"
Sammi ruffled my head and turned to walk out. "Such manners! Go for it, kid.Everyone's already awake; Jace is waiting for you downstairs." She left.
I walked over to my wardrobe and pulled out the first shirt i saw; just a plain white t-shirt. I grabbed a pair of white skinny jeans with black blood dripping down to the knees and slid them on, fingers skimming my marred thighs like they did in regret every day.
I thanked the lords of everything music that I'd put my hair up last night; all I had to do was let it down and it'd be knot-free.
The long, red, currently curly locks of hair bounced and flowed over my shoulders and I grabbed my eyeliner. It was a Thursday, which meant i had a tear dripping from my right eye today, and an especially thick ring of eyeliner. I paused then flicked mascara on haphazardly, the added darkness making my skin even paler than usual.
I trotted down the stairs and swung around the banister by one hand at the bottom, launching myself into the kitchen. Jace was already in there, eating a sandwich happily.
"Morning! Or, uh, afternoon, depending on how you look at it." I chirped. He smiled at me and waved.
I wrenched the fridge open and grabbed a jar of Vegemite and the butter before turning to a cupboard for the bread. God I loved Vegemite sandwiches.
I made myself the sandwich and put the stuff away, then let myself slump into the chair beside Jace. "I have to go see some school principal." I moaned unhappily. Jace shook his head and smiled, then picked up a pencil and started writing on the sheet of paper that was sitting on the table next to him. I laughed and agreed, then continued with my sandwich.
I brushed off the table and put my and Jace's plates in the sink, then walked into the lounge room. Jinxx was doing the folding. "Hey Skylar, Sammi's in the main bathroom. She told me to tell you to go to her when you're ready. " he greeted. "Oh yea hi Jinxx how are you? I'm good, thanks for asking." I deadpanned sarcastically. "Sorry." He grinned sheepishly." Morning Skylar. How are you?"
I laughed and went to find Sammi.
When I walked into her bathroom, she practically attacked me and sat me on a chair in front of the bathroom mirror, then threatened me with a roll of silver duct tape. "I'm doing your hair whether you like it or not. But am I allowed to cut or dye?"
I slumped into the chair with a defeated sigh. " cut, yes but not more than six inches or you die. Only die it if absolutely necessary!"
"Good girl. Now lemme attack your hair!"
—
"Done!" Sammi began untying my blindfold. We only had a little bit of time left before we had to go to the school thing. I blew on my fingernails to dry them absentmindedly.
