KING'S LANDING

"RISE AND SHINE, my love," the queen whispered softly on the girl's ear as she shook her awake.

The young princess Aelys whined and forced her eyes to open to look at her mother however due to the sunlight streaming inside the room, she was only able to squint her eyes.

Queen Alicent was dressed in her usual emerald green dress that had long sleeves. She was adorned with gold accessories from her hair to her hands which rivaled the sunlight from the way it sparkled.

"Can't I sleep a little longer?" Aelys pouted, rubbing her eyes to rid off sleep.

The queen smiled, "your father, the king, has requested for us to break our fast with him and," Alicent paused and her face showed dislike as she continued, "Princess Rhaenyra."

Grumbling, Aelys sat up on her bed and frowned.

If there was someone she disliked in the whole Keep, it would be her half sister, Rhaenyra.

Princess Rhaenyra was heir father's first child from his first wife, Queen Aemma, who died after giving birth to a son who did not live for more than a day.

Everything about Rhaenyra irritated Aelys, especially her sons who walked around the Keep as if they owned the place. Aelys wanted nothing to do with her half sister and her growing family but even though the castle was a large place and their apartments were on opposite sides, she still has to face them on mealtimes.

"I'd rather sleep." Aelys scoffed and fell back on her bed.

"Aelys!" Alicent chided. "You will join us for the morning feast and that is final." She stood up, clasping her hands above her stomach. "Your handmaiden will be here shortly to assist you for bath. I will help you myself but I have your other siblings to check on."

Aelys sighed. She knew that she couldn't not show up for breakfast. With great effort, the young princess sat up on the bed.

"Alright." She huffed.

Queen Alicent smiled at her and kissed the crown of her head before she left Aelys' chambers to wake her other children.

A handmaiden entered her chambers shortly after her mother left. Aelys stood up and walked over the bathing area where the handmaiden had prepared a warm bath to start her morning.

Lena assisted the princess in taking off her nightgown and small clothes and into the steaming bath tub. The smell of roses greeted Aelys' and she sighed in content, letting her back rest on the edge of the tub while her handmaiden worked on scrubbing her arms.

Princess Aelys was the second-born daughter, and fourth child, of King Viserys and Queen Alicent. She was born in
a year after her brother, Aegon, was born. Like all of her siblings, she had purple eyes and silver-golden hair which was the trademark of house Targaryen and of blood of Old Valyria.

The queen, Alicent, often told her the story of her birth — how she spent eight hours in labor. The maesters tried everything to fasten the birth but the babe wasn't cooperating so they had to wait. Alicent also mentioned how her father, the king, also waited for eight hours outside the chambers — and that was probably the only time Viserys was ever there for her.

Viserys had been there at Aelys' birth and was the first to hold her. Her mother had told her how Viserys fell in love with her when she was a babe, even declared that she was the apple of his eyes. Remembering her mother's stories now made Aelys snort. She didn't know if Alicent was just making it up to comfort and assure her that their father loved all his children equally or it was the truth because Aelys was clearly not the apple of his eyes.
