Yet another October re-upload!

Happy early Halloween! Really hope all my readers are having a great spooky season. :)
With that said, a trigger warning for:
Maybe gore?
Violence
And maybe forbidden love is a TW?

Iida wielded a shotgun, and his hand shook every time he had to raise it up. He hesitated on pulling the trigger. These were people-- once people. Now they were brainless creatures, with only one goal in mind; flesh.

Iida shot at two zombies quickly, and took off in the other direction of the abandoned building he was supposed to be at. His small group of friends, now a team, split up into the city. Midoriya was in the shopping district, and general public areas. Todoroki was taking down some near more private locations like agencies, secluded forests, and other areas that were similar.

Iida was in the business buildings and hospitals. He honestly hated having to kill these zombies. The outbreak devastated everyone, and the bodies were still being totalled by the day. But, Iida knew he had a duty. A duty to protect society. He could never be a hero if he couldn't do this much.

He found a secluded area and stopped to take a breather. The monsters were quite slow, but he was sure he killed all of them. If he didn't, he was still on his guard. Iida was sweating profusely, panting and gasping as he tried to gain his composure.

"You shouldn't halt your slaughter," a voice said near Iida. It sounded like they'd turned the corner and just so happened to stumble upon Iida. Iida looked up at the stranger. They could perform coherent speech, perhaps they were the only human left alive in the building besides Iida, himself.

Iida's eyes trailed up to the person. It was a girl, no taller than five feet. Her hair was white, and looked soft. She was dressed in a fine uniform, but it was tattered and dirty. But botches of her skin were a pale green. The rest of her was a ghostly pale. She looked dead.

She was dead.

Iida quickly stiffened and held up his shotgun, immediately aiming for the girl's head. She merely looked at him with a blank expression, staring deep into his blue eyes. "Kill me if you so please, but I believe I could be a valuable resource to you." Iida's eyes widened, but he slowly put his gun down.

"What do you mean?" He asked her. "W-who are you!? Give me a reason I should trust you!" Iida still had his gun in his hands, his index finger lightly ghosting over the trigger. The girl processed his words slowly, before approaching him.

"I'm Rei Ketsueki," the girl--Rei-- introduced. "I know where my allies are. I've turned against them. I wish to help you in your crusade to eliminate them." Iida's brows raised in a bit of surprise. She was intelligent for a zombie, perhaps she was capable of forming independent thoughts, not just flesh.

Iida slowly removed his finger from the trigger as Rei extended her hand out to him, presumably to shake hands. Iida took her hand in his and shook it gently. He could only stare at her green-ish forearm. It felt a bit soft. But, Iida panicked when he saw Rei pull back from the hand shake, but he still had her arm in his hand.

"Oh God!" Iida quickly dropped Rei's severed arm. "I-I'm sorry!" He bowed before Rei before lecturing himself in quiet mumbles. Rei simply bent down and grabbed the severed limb, and
held it in her other hand.

"Do you have a medical kit?" Rei asked quietly. Iida didn't even realize it was a question and not a statement. He nodded and fumbled in his duffel bag, before handing a box over to her. She thanked him and led him over to an abandoned office area, barricading the doors.

"Why are we here exactly?" Iida asked as Rei sat down on a couch near a meeting table. She took bandages from the med kit, and stitches from her uniform pocket.

"Zombies are downstairs, I can tell." Rei looked over to the desk and pointed at it with her detached hand. "There's bullets in the right drawer."

Iida hesitantly walked over to the desk and opened said drawer, and finding ammo immediately. It was about a few days worth of it. He quickly shoved it in his back, and reloaded his gun with some of the extras. His eyes landed on Rei as she quickly stitched up her own arm to her body again. It looked painful.

"Does that hurt?" Iida asked Rei. She looked up at him. The more he stared into her dull red eyes, he could see how docile she seemed. She seemed so strong, but weak in nature. Her eyes met his.

"No," she replied. "I can't feel pain. My tendons don't work the same as they used to before I died." Iida uttered an 'ah'. He watched Rei grab for the bandages, coiling them around her arm tightly, before tying it off.

"...You seem genuinely nice for a zombie," Iida admitted. "Not like the bloodthirsty ones I've had to kill." Rei looked up at the navy-haired boy, his glasses lenses glaring in the light.

"I don't really like my kind," Rei admitted. "I do have my urges once in a while, but because I was so intelligent before I died... I kind of was more knowledgeable. Not brain dead." Rei's eyes settled on her bandaged arm. "I'm more docile. I cannot bring myself to act on my urges. They can."

"Yeah, I understand that," Iida said. He was about to go on a long winded rant about how Rei must be struggling, before his walkie talkie burst with static.

"Iida?" Midoriya's voice said through the device. His voice sounded scratchy from the static. Rei's brows raised in a bit of surprise and confusion as Iida talked through the device.

"What is it, Midoriya?" Iida asked, pressing down on a button. Rei was confused. Who was Midoriya, and why did Iida have him over a walkie talkie?

"We've eliminated most of the zombies in our area. What about yours? Make sure to get them all." Iida went a bit pale and looked over at Rei. She looked back as her hands trembled a bit. She wasn't acquainted with feelings of fear or abandonment, so kept to herself. But, she looked nearly white in the face from how fearful she was Iida would leave her.

Rei had barely known him for ten minutes and was already attached. Nobody had been this kind to her since she'd died. She'd only faced brutality. "Yeah, sure thing. I've got most of them, too. I'll call you back in a minute." Iida took his thumb off the button and shoved down the antenna.

Iida seemingly saw how pale and fearful Rei seemed, and placed a hand on her shoulder in reassurance. "Don't worry," he told her quietly with a faint smile. "I'll try not to leave you, ever. We'll get through this together."

Rei blushed a bit. "...Together." She liked how the word sounded. It sounded loving, reassuring. She smiled a bit at it. Iida nodded with a chuckle, before standing up and heading to the door.

"We have a few monsters to take care of," Iida stated. Rei immediately remembered she was helping Iida kill the other zombies, not just hanging out with him in the office. She nodded and followed, retrieving a handgun from a drawer in the desk.

"Right," Rei said. She followed Iida out the door, ready to start life anew, and maybe make a friend or two. She already had one. She could help a lot more people.
