james has never really been in the position where his parents were mad at him.
sure, they got annoyed or angry at him, and he can remember times he got them so worked up he got grounded, but it's never been true, deep anger.
james thinks that might be changed now.
his relationship with them has been strained since that night almost a month ago, and he doesn't know what to do. he knows it's entirely his fault, his parents did nothing but be there for him. james pushed them away.
"will you flip on the tv, jamie?"
james looks up from his position in the kitchen and looks around for the remote. he finds it on the dining room table and walks over to grab it, pressing a button to turn it on. their house is almost completely open, very little walls dividing any rooms up, so everything flows really nicely. his dad is sitting on the barstools in their kitchen, sipping a cup of coffee and reading over something. he looks up when james turns the tv turns on and the news floods the house with noise.
"at approximately 9:00pm a few nights ago an incident took place on the williamsburg bridge. much of what occurred is merely speculation, at this point. however, several eye witnesses to the crime as well as our own pulmonary findings have positively placed one individual at the scene. which is why this morning, i am issuing an arrest warrant for the masked vigilante known as spider-man."
james quite literally feels his heart drop to his stomach. he had known that he was openly unliked by the police, chief orion black especially, but arresting him? that's a lot. he doesn't want that to happen.
james quickly puts his bowl of half-eaten cereal in the sink, appetite lost. he gathers his things and leaves without a word, the distance between him and his parents stretching on with every step.

there's screams coming from everywhere. the school halls are flooded with people running, seemingly away from something, and james immediately knows what's going on. he looks over to sirius, who he had been chatting with, and starts pushing him in the direction of everyone else.
"go," he says, a little desperately. sirius makes a displeased noise, fighting against his hold.
"what about you?"
"i'll explain later. just go outside, yeah? make sure regulus is okay," james says firmly, sighing in relief when sirius relents and starts running.
james runs too, but not away from it. no, he's going straight towards it. he doesn't have to go far, because it seems like the lizard, dr. riddle, his brain supplies grimly, was looking for him.
well, shit. there goes his secret identity.
james braces himself, preparing his wrist web-shooters that he always has on now, and launches himself directly at it. he gets a web wrapped around it's legs and trips it up for a second, giving him the opportunity to jump on it's back. it tries to grab at him, but james is quick, and the creature only manages to snag his backpack before he's slipping out of it's path.
he gets to stand flat-footed for all of one second before he's being thrown into a trophy case and straight through a wall into the chemistry classroom. james literally cant breathe for a few moments, the impact of hitting the ground causing him to lose his senses, but he comes to it pretty quickly when he sees the lizard striding over to him.
