"i can't do this."

CW: fighting, violence, blood. this is the scene in the movie where someone is killed by the lizard. it's not very graphic, but it's obvious there's blood and it's obvious they're dead.

james' ears are ringing.

he can feel people yanking his arms behind his back, putting them in handcuffs. they drag him into a sitting position, but james still can't move. he sits there for a long time, and he distantly wonders why he's not being put in jail, until he feels someone directly in front of him.

and they're trying to pull his mask off.

james finally springs into action, knocking the person in front of him off his feet and bolting up. the person managed to pull his mask off, though, so he can't fight very well. he's able to jump onto a cop car, looking up through his hair to see 3 police officers pointing guns at him. he quickly shoots multiple webs, blocking their vision with it as he jumps to another cop car beside the previous one. he goes for them one at a time, hopping off the car so he can start kicking and punching.

he's able to get all 3 down in no time.

he's just gotten the last one down and is crouching on his knees, when-

"freeze!"

james freezes.

"get down on the ground with your hands behind your head," the voice barks, and james turns around instead to come face to face with orion black, "potter?"

"it's headed to oscorp. your son is there right now," james calls, standing up slowly. he sees orion start to lower his gun, and he hastily continues, begging, "you've gotta let me go."

james gets to where his mask was thrown off, almost directly in front of orions feet. he slips it on, and when orion doesn't make to shoot him, he runs. he's just starting to swing himself on buildings when he hearts commotion behind him, no doubt the police officers trying to shoot him again.

"hold your fire!"

james feels a bullet graze his leg, and he doesn't give himself time to feel the pain because all he can think about is getting to regulus. his only focus is getting to oscorp before dr. riddle does.

that goes out the door when he finally does get there and a window is shattered. he makes a helpless noise, begging silently in his head to whoever's listening to keep regulus safe.

he's a few buildings away, and the pain in his leg is only getting worse. it's starting to wear on him, and james grits his teeth, trying his best to push through it. he shoots another web, and tries to swing to another building but falls short, and literally falls straight down. he realizes he's not dead on the ground, and considers himself very lucky to see he's laying on a balcony instead. it takes every ounce of strength he has left to stand up, and even more to actually start moving again. he crawls up the side of the building so he can get on the roof, and tries to figure out his next action.

that's when he sees that all the cranes in the city are coming together to form a path. a path for him.

james breathes deeply, and shoots a web so he can cover the hole in his leg and in his suit. he turns and starts to limp, but is able to get into a run pretty easily. he jumps off the roof, shoots, and goes sailing to the ground immediately.

he's not ashamed to admit that he screamed.

he thinks this is it, and is fully prepared to land on the ground, but another crane appears out of nowhere and he acts quickly, shooting a web and finally catches himself. he hangs there, let's himself be pulled up by the crane and can see the exact moment he has to jump.
