Chapter 14 - Can you (not) love me? (part 2)

Gaara's Point of View

"Kagome, wait!" I shouted while I chance her out to the gates. She ignores me as she continues to run away from me.

After my unplanned confession, Kagome ran away without a clear reason why she couldn't be with me. However, I refuse to give up there. So, I put all my belongings in my backpack. I also grabbed Kagome's backpack since she left it. Then, I force my un-fit body to run faster until I catch up to her.

"Kagome!" I shout one last time as I finally grab her left arm. She looks at me for a moment until she looks away from me. "Kagome...! Ahh- Forgive me. I need to catch my breath."

"I don't. So, goodbye-"

"Don't leave!" I quickly pull her towards me. Kagome didn't bother to push away, which made my heart calm down. "You admitted to me that you love me. But why can't you be with me? I deserve an answer."

Kagome stayed silent for a moment. Each second that she stayed silent for has increased my heart to race faster again. I don't know what answer it could be, but it's already scaring me.

"Isn't it obvious?" She finally speaks while she pushes herself away from me but still not looking at me. "I'm a yakuza. I could put you in danger at any time and day. And... My mommy would never stop seeing you as a murderer. Those could never change..."

The answer she gave me is understandable. I could be in any danger if a fellow Yakuza member or another Yakuza gang knows about me and her dating. Her mother, the one who started all the rumors and pointing all targets at me, would one day end my life. Would she, though? I honestly doubt it if she could remain silent for years and let my father use her "workers." However, I could honestly say that I truly don't care.

"Give me a chance. One date." I finally said. I noticed Kagome, finally looking at me, blush and shock expression. I take both her hands in mine. "This Saturday evening. Let's go on one date. If you still believe we can't be in a relationship, I won't annoy you about it again, and we'll remain friends. Do you agree with my proposal?"

Once again, she remains silent. Once again, my heart races again. Once again, I pray for her to accept me.

"Yes," Kagome finally gave me her answer while her face was fully blushed.

"Really?" I ask in surprise to her answer, and she nods shyly. Instantly, I kissed her hand without thinking. "Thank you. I look forward to our date. I promise you won't regret it."

Next Day Later - Kagome's Point of View

'I regret agreeing to the date...' I thought to myself while facing the clear blue skies.

Right after when I got home yesterday, I called (y/n) what happened. When she asked me why I didn't want to date him, I lied and said it was about the status. How rich he is and how poor I am. I also added how nervous I am, which is true. Good thing she believed it. We went to the mall and bought an outfit for my date. The dress I got is a spring pastel blue dress. To go with the dress, a gold bracelet and a small handbag. After shopping, we went to her cousin's café for cold smoothies.

"Here you go," I hear (y/n)'s voice as she comes with two ice drinks in her hands. "Your favorite strawberry iced smoothie with whipped cream from my cousin's cafe."

"Right... Thanks, bestie," I said to her and took the drink in my hands.

While I drink my smoothie, my phone starts to vibrate. I quickly pulled it out to see who's calling me, which also made me choke on my drink. The person calling me is Kimimaro. I remain frozen as my mind is slowly left to wander if Kimimaro had witnessed everything. Leaving me to worry for Gaara's safety even more. He might even tell my boss this. Rather, she would believe I'm doing this for a mission or not. She would order someone to stop this. Before I could debate to answer his call or not, I had missed his call already. Then he left me a text message.
