Three days ago...

Lan Wangji never imagined that he would find himself in this exact situation. The thought of it was completely ridiculous and if given more thought, hilarious.

"Okay, we have to set down some rules and background story to not be caught off guard when we're out there." Wei Ying frowned down in concentration at his notebook where he was writing down everything about their supposed relationship. "Believe me, questions will be asked and we need to be a hundred percent convincing."

It was just so he could memorize it because that sheet of paper needed to be destroyed as soon as they left his bedroom. It was too much of a risk for someone to find it if they wanted this thing to work in the long term.

"Agreed." Lan Wangji admired Wei Ying's dedication to this whole thing. "We need this to last for as long as possible."

"Exactly. Neither of us is looking to date anyone right now or in the near future. I've really got my hands full with work and doctorate and I'm pretty sure it's the same for you," when he got a nod, Wei Wuxian continued. "So until we really find interest in someone, we'll continue to date each other."

"Yes," Lan Wangji smiled a little with relief. Good, they were on the same page. "I told my uncle we've been dating for a while but didn't specify how long. Two months sounds like a good amount of time for me to consider this a really serious relationship and tell my family and everyone else about it."

"That sounds plausible. In two months we should be mostly comfortable around each other. I know from what I've seen in your past relationship that you're not much for PDA, but I'm known to be very tactile."

"We need to find a middle ground." Lan Wangji concluded. Giving the idea some thought, it didn't make him feel uncomfortable at all. "The only thing I would be against is a make out session in front of everyone, but I'm okay with a quick kiss. I'm also okay with hugs and hand holding."

Wei Wuxian wrote that down.

"I think a middle ground on the kissing would be kisses on cheeks or foreheads. Keep it intimate and convincing enough." Wei Wuxian offered.

"I'm okay with that." Lan Wangji nodded, watching as Wei Wuxian kept taking notes. He knew from experience of having studying sessions together that it helped Wei Ying memorize things faster by writing them down.

"If either of us changes our minds about something, we must tell each other. I don't want to lose our friendship Lan Zhan, so we must promise to communicate with each other."

"I promise."

"I promise."

They stared at each other for a few seconds, trying to figure each other out. Whilst this was a convenient arrangement for both of them, they'll be adjusting their friendship to fit their upgraded relationship as lovers. It was a thin line they'll be threading.

"If we're being critical about our behavior around each other, we already act like a couple. It's just upping the PDA a notch so others catch up. No one would believe us otherwise." Lan Wangji frowned.

A few years back their friends had grilled them about them being in a romantic relationship which seemed absurd to both parties involved. After a while the teasing had subsided and everyone just found it normal, it was just Wangji and Wuxian. It was their thing, nothing more, nothing less.

"True. We have to work on being convincing but make it as natural as possible," Wei Wuxian looked at Lan Wangji for confirmation, when he received it he continued. "I think what we need to work on is not being awkward when hugging and kissing. We hug and cuddle enough that other's don't find it strange but we still keep some boundaries that now should be gone."
