"This one is prettier and smarter than the last one! I've been told she's sweet and quiet too. She's studying physics and comes from a great family. Wangji, you'll be perfect for each other." His uncle went on about this new date he had lined up for him.

Boring. That's all Lan Wangji could think of.

"Uncle, I'm gay." Lan Wangji reminded, staring straight at his uncle's eyes. The man didn't even falter.

"She has a brother! Same family, he must be good too and-"

"I have a boyfriend."

"What?" his uncle's eyes went round with surprise.

What indeed.

What did I just say?

On the inside, Lan Wangji was a panicked mess; on the outside, he was serenity in the flesh.

"It's fairly new. We wanted to wait to see if things would work out." He explained.

"Is it?"

"Yes."

"Who is it?" Lan Qiren's eyes widened. "Please tell me it's not Jin Zixuan."

WHAT.

"No. He's a friend and has a girlfriend."

"Thank the heavens. He's the one you mostly interact with on our reunions. I just thought... never mind."

Lan Wangji faintly recalls what his uncle could take his interactions with Zixuan to come up with them dating. It didn't make sense. In fact, he wouldn't have been friends with him if it weren't for the fact that Wangji really enjoyed spending time with Luo Qingyang (Mian Mian). Sadly –at first – she and Zixuan came as a package deal. Slowly Jin Zixuan started growing on him, for some reason Wangji still couldn't point out specifically. Now he considered them both some of his closest friends. The thought of anything romantic with either of them made him shudder.

"Who is it then?"

"Mn?"

"Your boyfriend."

Ah, right. What have I done?

"Wei Wuxian."

Again... what?

His uncle's face went completely white.

If Lan Wangji remembered correctly, Wei Wuxian didn't attend many family gatherings. So anything that his uncle would know would be rumors and there were quite some creative ones about Wei Wuxian.

This should be interesting.

"You said what?"

"I told my uncle you are my boyfriend."

"Why?"

"I panicked." Lang Wangji admitted truthfully, earning an incredulous look from Wei Wuxian. "Your name is the first one that came to mind."

The fact that Lan Wangji didn't feel the slight disgust of being associated with Wei Ying as something more than friends that he felt with Zixuan, went unsaid.

"But-"

"You've been complaining about your family pestering you with being on a stable relationship. I can provide that. It's a win-win situation for both of us." Lan Wangji explained.

"Lan Zhan your uncle will hate me, if he doesn't already." Wei Wuxian pouted.

That's not a "no", Lan Wangji thought.

"He doesn't know you." he paused. "Jiang Wanyin doesn't like me."

"He does-" at Lan Zhan's stare Wei Ying sighed. "He takes a while up to warm up to people."

"It's been years."

"A long while." Wei Ying chuckled but then turned serious again. "You have to know that things will most likely get complicated. We'll be fooling everyone."

"I know." Lan Wangji sighed. "I'm tired of uncle setting me up with people I really don't like. The latest date, the man wanted to force feed me grilled meat because he just couldn't understand why I couldn't eat something so delicious,"

Lan Wangji rolled his eyes, a sight only Wei Wuxian and Lan Xichen had ever experienced.

"I'm tired of everyone asking when I'll find someone. I just want to continue to do the things I love without having to accommodate to someone new. That's why this could work. You and I know each other really well, we understand each other, I never feel like you're in the way and I really enjoy your company."

There was a long pause after that.

Lan Wangji sat anxiously, looking at Wei Wuxian think.

"I can't believe I'm saying this but I agree." Wei Wuxian sighed and Lan Wangji felt relief all over. "It will be beneficial for both of us and we really wouldn't have to change our dynamics much. I also like spending time with you."

"Does this mean you'll be my boyfriend?"

"Yes. With one condition," at Lan Zhan's nod, he continued. "The moment something gets uncomfortable, we talk about it. I don't want the whole miscommunication ordeal were we end up hurting each other. I value our friendship more than that."

"I promise."

"Okay, so," Wei Wuxian grinned. "Hello boyfriend."
