TW: Mentions of drinking
...
Draco knew he never should've gone to that stupid party.
But it was the end of their eighth year at Hogwarts. Pansy insisted that this was an important party to be at. "We'll never see these people or this castle again!" she had said. "Don't you want to let lose and enjoy just this one night?"
"No. No I don't."
Unfortunately, Pansy couldn't care less about what Draco wanted and dragged him to the party anyway.
So there Draco was, stuck at this party, hugging the wall. Pansy had long left to get a drink, but it seemed to Draco that she wasn't coming back anytime soon.
It was an odd sight indeed, Draco Malfoy not wanting to be at a party. Perhaps a few years ago, a party like this would've been the highlight of his week. He'd be in the center of the crowds, soaking up all the attention. Now, he was desperately hoping no one would even notice he was there. After the war, no one was sure how to feel about Draco. Sure, he worked for the deatheaters and by extension, Voldemort. But he did it against his will. And he threw Harry his wand so he technically defeated the Dark Lord right? It was all very confusing for the students of Hogwarts. Some steered clear of him. Others gave him the smallest of validations when they passed him in the halls, like a nod or a wave. Most of them were kind of waiting around to see what Harry himself thought of Draco. But whenever the blonde was brought up to Harry, he'd get this red blush in his cheeks and change the subject.
'This was so stupid' Draco thought as he left the Great Hall. If Pansy came looking for him, he'd just say he got tired or something. But he refused to sit around by himself in a room full of people. He decided he wasn't that pathetic yet.
He turned the corner and immediately knocked into somebody.
"Hey! Watch where you're- oh, Draco! It's you~!"
Draco looked up to see none other than the hero of Hogwarts himself, Harry Potter. Something was off about him, though. The way he talked and the way he was hunched over on the wall made it seem like he was...
"Pottah! Are you drunk?"
Harry giggled and hiccuped. "Whaat? Why would you think that, Dray?"
'He's so drunk.'
Draco sighed. "I suppose I'm gonna have to be the good person her and take you back to your common room, hm?"
Harry wrapped his arms around Draco, snuggling up against him. Draco knew this was just his drunken behavior but still, something about having Harry so close to him was... addicting.
"Oh Dray, you're so sweet!" Harry slurred.
Draco rolled his eyes and dragged Harry forwards. "Honestly, how much fire whiskey did you have?"
"Whadda you mean? I didn't have a sip."
"Sure."
Harry spent the rest of the walk blabbering about who knows what. Draco wasn't really listening. He was too focused on how handsy Harry had become. He knew fire whiskey filled the drinker with courage, which was probably the only reason Harry was all over him, he figured. The hugging and hand holding was just because he was drunk. No other reason. None at all.
Draco hadn't noticed Harry had stopped talking and was just staring at him under they reached the Gryffindor Common Room. "What?" he asked. "What is it?"
He smiled like a drunken idiot, which he was. "You're so pretty Draco~"
Draco ignored the blush on his face as well as Harry. "Will you please just open up your stupid common room painting door so I can go back to my own room?"
"Hehe. Okay. The password is 'Draco Malfoy has beautiful eyes'."
Draco groaned, only slightly flustered. "Seriously, Harry."
"Okay, okay. It's 'Draco Malfoy is such a hottie'." Harry said with his stupid little grin.
Draco was a tomato face. "Okay, fine! You want to be difficult, then you can stay out here! Maybe one of your Gryffindork friends will let you in."
Harry clinged onto Draco once again. "Nooo. Don't leave me, Draco! I love you!"
Draco froze. He could deal with all of Harry's fake compliments. That was nothing. But this, this was a real proclamation of love and - as much as Draco wanted to deny it - what he wanted to hear Harry say to him for so long.
"Just- stop it, Harry. You're drunk and you don't know what you're saying."
Harry frowned. "I might be a little tipsy, but I'm sober enough to know who I love, Dray." he yawned. "Also, I'm tired. Will you take me to bed? Pretty please??"
Draco wasn't sure how to feel. He was a bit dazed, to be honestly. But he nodded, and Harry murmured the actual password (It was 'Caput Draconis') and Draco helped him upstairs. The room was empty, which was expected as everyone else was the enjoying the party while Draco got to drag a half-asleep Harry up two flights of stairs. Horray.
He was exhausted by the time they reached Harry's dorm. The second his head hit the pillow, Harry was out like a light. Draco couldn't help but smile as turned out the light. He was about to leave when he heard a voice call out to him.
"Draco! Don't go. Your dorm is so faaar. Stay with me!"
Draco quickly realized Harry was not going to let him leave. "Fine, whatever Pottah."
He sat on the edge of his bed, planning to just leave when he was sure Harry was really asleep. That planned was short lived, though, as Harry wrapped his arms around Draco removing his ability to leave.
'Fantastic' he thought glumly.
He couldn't help but find Harry's arms comforting and eventually, against his will, began to drift off to sleep.
And that's exactly how Ron and Hermione found them the next morning, wrapped up in each other's arms.
