"So I was thinking that we could spend today together. We could go see a movie or go grab some lunch together. Whatever you'd like to do." Brittany smiled as she put her hand on your thigh.

"Oh, uh," You paused as you finished the last bite of your breakfast. "I would but I have plans already."

Brittany's smile faded away as she clenched her jaw.

She had a feeling that she already knew what your plans were and who they were with.

"With your new friend, right?"

You looked at Brittany with a surprised expression, wondering why she said it in the tone of voice that she did.

She seemed angry, almost speaking through her teeth when she said those words.

"Yeah." You said as you got up to put your plate in the sink.

"You're always hanging out with her. You don't have time to spend with your girlfriend anymore?"

"What? Why would you say something like that?"

"Because it's true! You barely spend time with me anymore. You're always hanging out with your new friend!"

You sighed and stared down at your feet as you rubbed your temples.

"If she's even a friend."

Those words caught you off guard and you quickly looked up at your girlfriend, gazing at her in shock.

"What do you mean?"

"I mean that you're so close to her and spend so much time with her that sometimes... I think she's more than just a friend to you."

The words sank in, the silence hit the air, and you felt your heart shatter over the things she'd said.

"You think I'm cheating on you?"

"I don't like to think that but, sometimes, yeah. It's like you'd rather hang out with her than me and sometimes, you just seem so busy and so distant. It makes me feel like you'd rather be with her."

"No, Brittany, that's not it all." You said as you walked over to her.

She pulled you onto her lap and put her arms around you.

"Baby, she is only a friend. That's all she'll ever be. I promise you, the only one that I want to be with and only ever want to be with is you."

She cracked a small smile, only for it to fade away.

"Then why don't you want to spend time with me?"

"I do, my love. I've just been so busy hanging out with her and I didn't even realize that I wasn't paying much attention to you. I'm so sorry."

"It's okay, I guess. I'll just spend another day here by myself. Maybe, soon, you'll spend some time with me?"

"Yeah. I'm spending today with you." You said before kissing her lips softly. "I'm texting her in a minute to tell her that I have to take a rain check for a few days so I can spend some time with my girl instead."

Brittany's eyes lit up and she pulled you in for a big, comforting squeeze.

"I'd love that."

"I love you and I'm truly sorry for not spending much time with you lately. I promise that's going to change starting right now."

"I love you too, sweet girl." She smiled brightly before pulling you in for another kiss.
