"He said he never had kits..." Sliverstar sat alone with Alyssa on the fair battlegrounds just at the edge of BrambleClan territory.

"That was moons ago, Sliverstar. And you remember what Littlebird said." Alyssa tried to comfort her new cat friend. "Don't let it bug you too much. Remember BrambleClan's your family."

Sliverstar sighed heavily. "Alyssa, I don't want to do this anymore. I had always been told 'You're a very special cat, Sliverstone. You'll find your destiny one day, Sliverstone', but I just want to be normal. I wanted to live a joyful life with Breezesong and Nightwhisper. We'd all grow up and start families and watch apprentices grow...."

Alyssa sat herself down on the grass, her wings ruffling wildly to comfort. "I can't understand, you know. I've never had a family. No father, mother, siblings, or even a mate, but, you know, if you're not happy, you can always find a new life." The young owl turned her head to the leader. She was still gazing out into the fields. "Destinies are fables."

Then there was a rustle in the ferns. Sliverstar stood up in awareness and her fur bristled in hostility as a yellow cat slid out into the open. "The fair is always open for strays, you know?"

Alyssa perked up seeing the tom, but Sliverstar showed her teeth. "You're on BrambleClan territory, rogue!"

The cat dipped his head in respect. "I understand. I used to be a warrior. My name's Sunfall."

The leader's hackles fell back down. "Alright, Sunfall, but this is no excuse to trespass."

Sunfall nodded. "I couldn't help but overhear your conversation. I felt the same way long ago. Now I live here, at the fair, happy and feeling like I'm where I belong."

Sliverstar and Alyssa exchanged glances, hope in the young owl's blue eyes. "It's worth a try..." said the leader, half undecided. Alyssa sealed her deal with a smile.

"It's been a while, Sunfall," she lifted herself up onto the yellow cat's back.

"You know this cat, Alyssa?"

The owl bounced, a little unsteady on the cat's sleek structure. "I was there when he and his sister were the best warriors in BrambleClan."

"Who's his sister?" Sliverstar asked.

Sunfall shook his head. "That's a story for another time. If you want to leave, Sliverstar, we must leave now. Leaves more time for your scent to wash away." The cat was already turned to leave. "Then you'll be free." Without a further word, he disappeared, leaving Sliverstar with little time to decide.

The leader felt the pressure alone at the border, so she followed through where her owl friend had vanished, her rank now forgotten.
