Romeo
Shortly after getting out, I sat on a bench in a crowded area wearing everything that I own. Just a dirty black t-shirt, ripped jeans, and roughed-up shoes. Looking down at the floor, I thought to myself, it's been five years. Five years of grieving alone in a cell. Fighting for my life day in and day out. Still, I grieved, I lost the only father I knew. Along with the people that I thought were my family. I'm not sure what happened but I've spent enough time dwelling, it's time to get to the bottom of it. The Casters are going to regret framing me for the death of a man who changed my life. I mean, what else do I have to lose right? I lost my train of thought when I heard a familiar voice.
"Romeo? Is that you?" I heard from the crowded sidewalk.
"Oh my god, it is you! No way! The Romeo De La Luna!" the woman spoke as she made her way through the crowd. It was an old friend named Angel. We were close friends before everything got turned upside down. She was really close to me and my "family." Luckily, she was away from school during all of it.
"Hola chico!" She excitingly shouted, shoving through the crowd at this point. She's grown into an attractive woman, especially since the last time I saw her.
"Hey prima," I said standing, and straightening myself up. I always called her "prima" growing up because she was always like that weirdly outgoing cousin to me.
"Oh my gosh, it feels like I haven't seen you in like, forever!" She said as she reached out to me going in for a hug.
"Yeah, one thousand, eight hundred, twenty-five days, two hours and thirty-eight seconds to be exact," I said with a plain face as she hugged me. "I counted."
"Well, that would explain the unread texts and missed calls then! Why didn't you reply?" She laughed jokingly after letting me go.
"By the way, do not listen to those voicemails! Most of them are me ranting about random things ha-ha" She joked again. "And geesh boy, you've gotten buff! Like a real macho man, built like a machine!"
"I was in pri-" I stopped. I didn't want to fill her in on the way things happened. She's too good for that. "I've been away. Had to do stuff, but now I'm back to deal with some things."
"Okay, Mr. gloomy," She said, "Well hey let me give you a ride home!"
"That's okay prima, I don't want anyone knowing that I'm back just yet. I'm looking for something new right now" I said. Angel looked a little confused but then gave a slight grin.
"Don't worry your secret is safe with me!" She smiled, "How about I take you to my place? You can stay there for a while."
"You have a place here? In the city?" I asked as we walked to her car that was parked nearby. "You hate the city?"
"I know, I know I used to ha-ha, but I have a pretty awesome job and my client pays for pretty much anything I need." She laughed again. "Come on let's go!"
We got into her car and drove to her place. I looked out of the window watching all the buildings pass us by and the darkness set in, all the while she kept talking. Joking and trying her hardest to get me to laugh. All I could think about was my next step. What was I gonna do next?
Soon enough we pull up to her apartment building and walk inside. She's done well for herself I thought to myself, the building looked like a skyscraper from the outside. The interior was very high class, even for her taste. She took my hand and guided me to the elevators.
"My apartment is on the top floor," Angel said smiling, noticing how amazed I looked. "By the way when we get the chance, I'll introduce you to my neighbor!"
I shrugged, as we made our way out of the elevator and to her door.
She fumbled with the keys a bit and then walked me inside. Her apartment was massive! It seemed like she owned the entire top floor. Everything was a mix of antique and modernized furniture. It all looked more expensive than her car.
"Whoever's paying for all of this must really like you" I joked.
"Hey silly, quit ogling everything and make yourself at home. If you need a shower just head down the hall and it'll be in the first bedroom to your right, okay?" I'll have clothes ready for you on the bed when you get out." She said as she scurried through the apartment.
I made my way down the way through the bedroom until I found the shower. I turned on the water and it was already steaming, I stripped out of my clothes and stepped into the shower. I felt the hot water stream down my body, and it felt amazing. Don't get me wrong, as much as I enjoy taking cold showers with a bunch of grown men, this felt nice to be alone for once. Letting the water hit my face as I let out a sigh, feeling the streams run down my chest towards my swelling manhood and further to my legs until they reached the floor beneath me. The water felt really nice, but I didn't want to stay in too long, so I decided to get out. I reached for a towel but found there was none around, so I stepped out to search for one.
"Hey by the way I forgot to mention the maid didn't stock the towe-" Angel stopped saying, as she barged in as I was walking out of the shower.
I covered up as much as I could, "Jesus Angel! You could've warned me first!" I shouted, as she quickly covered her eyes and turned around handing me a towel with one free hand.
"Sorry here you goooo" She said sounding giddy. "I'll let you get dried off; your clothes are on the bed."
She rushed out panting. "Boy was that awkward, I really hope she didn't see much," I said to myself as I dried myself off.
Once dry I walked into the room and found a clean white shirt and a pair of grey sweats on the bed, honestly it's better than what I'm used to, the only thing is she forgot boxers. I quickly got dressed but the sweats leave nothing to the imagination.
I walked out of the bedroom briefly to thank her and noticed that she was very red in the face.
"Hey, are you okay?" I asked. I knew it was dumb to ask but I had to make sure.
"Yeah! Grree-aat! You can sleep in theeere; I have another room over here... on this side!" Angel said stammering, looking all wide-eyed not taking her eyes away from my face. Almost as if she was focusing extra hard not to look down.
"Okay great, thanks prima," I said, "I'll see you in the morning."
"Yeah, sure thing! Goodnight!" She said as she rushed to her room.
"Yep, she definitely saw," I thought, as I made my way back into the bedroom.
"Things are gonna be awkward now" I chuckled as I went over to the window and opened it slightly, letting the cold air in. I then moved the covers to the side of the bed before laying down. The bed felt amazing, it's been such a long time that I actually forgot what a bed feels like. But something was off and I couldn't quite put my finger on it.
The padding on the bed felt great, and so did the pillows and there was a certain aroma in the air I couldn't quite pinpoint. I was left clueless for a second.
"Ah! what am I doing?" I asked myself as I hopped out of bed quickly taking off my shirt and exposing my bare chest and abs to the now cold room. I never sleep with clothes on, silly me.
I paused for a second...
"For Angel's sake, I think I'll leave the sweats on," I said to myself before laying back down feeling the covers brush against my bare skin. It felt like a gentle touch from a long-lost love.
"It's probably best if I don't give her a fright early in the morning due to certain things" I joked to myself.
As I lay there for a moment, I started to think, "what's your next move? what comes next?"
The darkness started to take over as the lights through the apartment dimmed to nothing. All was quiet and all was calm. There were no sounds of inmates fighting or screaming bloody murder, or banging against the bars. As a matter of fact, there were no bars at all. I was able to relax, it felt weird but nice.
"I'll think about my next move in the morning," I said to myself. "Tomorrow is a new day."
Within minutes I was out.
