I wake up the next day to the sound of people moving around. Fuck, I don't want to do this.

"Francis, wakey wakey!" Enid calls.

"I'm up," I groan. I move the curtain out of the way and jump down, stumbling a little with tiredness.

"Don't fall and crack that pretty skull of yours," Wednesday snickers. She sits at the edge of her bed waiting for Enid to finish blow drying her hair.

"Thanks, pigtails," I roll my eyes and go to the closet to change. I can't help but notice a slight smirk from her as I turn away.

———

When we arrive to class, I motion for her to sit next to me, but I guess she doesn't notice as she sits next to Xavier. My heart sinks at the thought of her not liking me.

Enid turns around to me, realizing where she's sat.

"Don't worry about it, wing man's got your back," she says with a grin.

"If she's not interested in the first place then why try?" I question her, pulling out my song journal.

"I'm sure she is... why not wow her with some music of yours?"

"No.. She wouldn't be impressed with shit. I-"

Erin interrupts me, grinning again. "Your music! Show it to her! Let her listen!"

She's talking about the music I write. I'm in music club, coming from being in band at my old middle and high school. But the club is small. So small, that it's just me. Principal Weems gave me a small studio where I can write and record as much as I want. It's quite secluded from the rest of the school, so I don't have to worry about interruptions.

"No. But you just gave me a new song idea," I smirk at her. She squeals and shakes her hands in excitement.

Class starts but i'm too busy writing my thoughts. I need a name... to replace hers so it's not obvious. When I look around at all of the plants surrounding us, my eyes focus on one in particular. A bright pink and purple magnolia stares back at me. Specifically, a Jane Magnolia.

So i continue my writing, not focusing on class at all when I feel a hand pressed to my back.

"Miss Asmodeus," Miss Thornhill presses. "Are you paying attention?" I freeze at the sudden attention i've gained. "I see you're writing. 'Jane Magnolia'?" She knows I write, most of the staff do. She doesn't press farther as she continues scanning the paper. "I see who you're writing about," she whispers. "What a way to change the name. See me after class."

I just nod in return as she walks back to her desk. Enid turns around to me with a raised brow, knowing who as well.

——-

"Class dismissed," Thornhill announces. We all grab our books. Enid walks up to me begging to read it as I decline. I felt a bit violated having Thornhill read it without my permission. "You know," the redhead teacher speaks. Wednesday joins the few of us as Thornhill leans on my table. "I'm a sucker for young love. The way you've described the girl makes it obvious who it is, so be careful."

"It's not a crush," I chime. She looks at me with a surprised expression. "They have inspired me. That is all."

"Hmmm," she hums with suspicion.

Edin smiles, saying, "I'm trying to get her with that person!"

Wednesday interrupts. "A teacher prying into a students love life does not seem very professional. I say that you're the one who should be careful here."
