—-Francis POV—-
I return from the showers covered in a soft robe that Enid brought for me. By now it's 10:00, so Enid runs down to grab some food for us before it's lights out. The creaky floorboard echoes through the quiet halls as I slowly but surely make my way to the room.
I open the door to see Wednesday sitting on her bed, reading the same dark edged book from the other day.
She looks up from her book, setting it aside. "Come sit, I have the bandages right here. I follow as she says and sit beside her on the bed, her grabbing the bandages. I let the black robe sink to my shoulders as I hold it to my chest the same as before. The back of the robe lays at my waist.
"What're you reading?" I ask to start a conversation in the uncomfortable silence.
"A book formed of Edgar Allen Poe's stories. I've read it many times before." She wraps the bandages around me, reaching into my robe and out the other side. I can't help but shiver as she touches my stomach.
"My favorite is The Black Cat. You?"
"You like Poe?" She asks, intrigued.
"Mhm."
"Ligea. It's dark," she replies.
"Haven't read that one. What's it about?" I ask.
She stops for a second, almost seeming happy that I asked. "It's about a man in distress about his first wife and imagines his soul in his second wife."
"Interesting," I say, pausing for a second. "May I borrow the book once you're done?"
I swear I could hear a slight smile in her voice as she mumbles a "sure".
———
I wake up to Wednesday asleep beside me. She moves so little that I can't tell if she's even breathing. I can see the sun shining through the giant glass window as crows caw from the woods.
A tapping noise startles me but doesn't awake Wednesday. On the bottom of the bed sits a hand. Only a hand. Not the weirdest thing i've seen here but i'm definitely confused.
"Hi...?" I whisper. The hand waves back, picking up a letter beside it and 'walking' onto my lap. I cautiously take the note from it and open it, keeping a side eye on the creepy hand.
'Dear, Wednesday and Francis,
I wanted to let you guys sleep in because I'm sure you're still in pain. I hope Wednesday can help you through the day! (adding a sloppily drawn winky face) I'll be back at 3. I'm letting Weems know what's going on so you two can be excused. Let's hope Thing gets this to you!
P.S. Weems wants to talk to you, so visit when you can today!
Love, Enid <3'
"Thing?" I ask, still whispering. The hand taps happily.
"I see you've met Thing," Wednesday says with a groggy voice, still faced the other way without any movement.
"I have," I reply. "It's fascinating."
"He's quite sweet when you get to know him... It's disgusting." Her groggy voice rings in my ear. It's quite cute.
The hand taps in an annoyed tone.
"Nice to meet you, Thing," I say, my voice raising from the whisper. The hand uses his pointer finger to take a slight bow. I chuckle in excitement at this new creature.
"What time is it?" She asks.
I look at the clock on the other side of the room on Enid's night stand. "7:26. Though Enid wrote a note saying she's explaining to Weems and getting us excused."
She groans, flipping over to face me.
"I'm sleeping in."
I smile, laying back down and her facing her. I pull the blankets over us almost completely. Thing taps away into his own space, probably on my bunk.
"Sounds good. I'll join," I sigh.
A moment of silence falls as we both try to rest.
"How are you feeling?" She asks, eyes never opening.
"Better. Just really sore."
"Alright," she mumbles. "I'm cold."
"Do you want to move closer?" I ask cautiously.
She replies in a dead, groggy tone. "I like the cold."
"Right," I mumble back. I kind of wish she would but I think i'd die due to the close contact.
Another moment of silence falls between us. Why would I ask that? Am I wanting her to hate me? Fuck, Im so stupid.
The bed slightly shakes as she moves around. Surprisingly, I feel her head against my chest and her arms against my stomach. I can feel my face reddening and body heat rising. She places her hands under my shirt and onto my stomach and bandages. I move the blanket more over her, almost completely covering her head.
She makes a little groan noise before saying, "You're hot."
I chuckle a "Thanks."
"You know what I mean," she groans, a smirk in her voice.
"I know. All the ladies want me."
"Ladies. Do you like girls?" She inquires.
I pause for a moment, wondering if I just blew it with her. Is she uncomfortable?
"Uhm.. Yeah."
"Hm," She sighs. We stay quiet for a moment, me not knowing how to respond to that. "I'm not uncomfortable if that's what you're wondering. I don't care the gender. We are all just bodies with souls anyways."
"Makes sense," I say, obvious relief in my voice.
"I don't hate you any more than before."
I smile, "sure, pigtails."
I wrap my arm around her and hold her closer, trying to let her get the most warmth out of me possible. In doing so, I place my hand on her back. I feel as if she's so fragile one wrong move would shatter her. But even though that feeling runs in my mind, I rub my hand along her back in a comforting way. She stays close, never moving a muscle.
—-Wednesday POV—-
Holy. Shit. What am I doing. I don't actually like this asshole, do I? Is my first crush this one?
But even If I did, why would she like me back? She's a happy, loving and comforting person. I'm nothing but a black pit. I'm trouble just waiting to happen.
Though, I have to say that I enjoy this. If anyone else were to even come close to touching me I think I'd rip their eyes out. But instead of feeling resentment towards them, I feel a little less depressed. I think... maybe I do like them.
But before I can continue my thoughts, the feeling of them against me and hand moving along my back makes me quickly fall back asleep.
