"They turned us into the perfect instruments for rehabilitation of the time continuum." Five rubbed his hands together, thinking back to quite possibly a few of the worst years of his life. "Or 'corrections' as they call them."

"We weren't the only ones. There were others like us." Octavia joined in. "Beings out of time, fractured, extracted from the lives that they knew. No idea how they got there. What I do know, is that none of them were as good as we were." The girl looked at the boy next to her with a sad but proud smile on her face.

"They didn't realise it, but we were biding our time, trying to figure out the right equation so we could get back. If I could just get back, I knew I could stop the apocalypse." Five muttered the last part, his voice turning into nothing but a whisper. "Save the world."

"And then my whole plan failed. Apparently, Octavia had requested a solo mission, which went sideways, and..." Five stared off into the distance, hesitating to finish. "Tavia died. Or at least, that's what the Handler made me believe."

"So I broke my contract." The boy glanced over at her as he recounted the story.

"Wait." Luther frowned and looked over at the young girl sitting on the bed. "How did you even get to the apocalypse in the first place?"

"Remember that one day I didn't come down for dinner?" Octavia asked, receiving a nod from Luther. "Yeah, I got kidnapped." Luther's mouth opened and closed as if he was a fish, causing Octavia to sigh.

"The Handler time travelled to that day, took me from my room, and locked me in a dark room for a while. I have no idea how long, because time works differently at the Commission. By the time I got out, I was 23, and that's where the rest of the story started."

It was quiet for a moment. Luther was still processing everything that they had said, and the pair looked at him expectantly. Instead of saying something, Luther stood up and strolled over to the miniature kitchen, preparing three cups of tea. He brought the warm cups over to them and paused for a second.

"So, you were a hitman? And a hitwoman?" Luther sounded unsure, and his brows furrowed in confusion at his own statement. He handed Five a cup of tea, giving the second one to Octavia and keeping the third for himself.

The two muttered a small conformation and a 'thanks'.

"I mean, you had a code, right?" Luther laughed nervously. "You didn't just kill anybody."

"No code." Octavia said as she tried to cool off her tea by blowing into the cup.

"We took out anyone who messed with the timeline." Five added, his hands wrapped around the hot cup.

"What about innocent people?" Luther questioned, his cup still steaming on the table next to him.

"It's the only way we could get back here." The girl tried to take a sip, but the hot liquid burnt her tongue immediately. She quickly pulled the cup away from her mouth, her face scrunching up.
