Lan Sizhui

That day Sizhui simply couldn't think of anything else but his bunny friend.

He wasn't oblivious to his gift with the guqin, but knowing that animals were also enchanted by it sealed the deal for him.

After training, classes, and a closed book exam, he religiously practiced the guqin technique making sure to sound more serene than usual.

He carefully selected a calming area surrounded by grass and a miniature waterfall.

"What's up with the sudden practising obsession huh?" Lan Jingyi asked, playing with a stick.

Sizhui simply ignored him until he finished his piece.

This song was aptly titled Wistful Truth. Ironic, since it was Sizhui who was playing this.

It happened to be one of the most difficult yet beautiful ballads of the Lan Clan.

Sizhui gracefully slid his slender fingers on the strings. Creating a harmonious melody that sounded like divine music.

Deep and high notes interlacing together to create a perfect rhythm and flow. One amiss move and-

"Ack-"Disrupting the steady air was an out of place strum.

A dark note that jumbled the whole aura of the area.

"Woah! Jeez..," Jingyi commented jumping up in shock.

Uncharacteristically Sizhui groaned and fell back. His ponytail flattening against the grass, his snow white clothes getting cover just a bit by dust.

Jingyi seemed to be more surprised by Sizhui little frustrated outburst than the clear mistake in his guqin playing.

"Hey, it's alright to fail sometimes Sizhui, no need to be so hard on yourself," Jingyi consoled.

Lan Jingyi

"I said that I'd get better at the guqin, but I never do!" Sizhui complained loudly.

Jingyi didn't respond to his loud cries. Instead he just sat there, cringing a bit.

Sizhui had never voiced aloud his out grievances. Jingyi had only ever seen him comfort others. It was on very rare occasions that Sizhui was so open.

So open that he had dropped his stage smile, and exchanged it with a look of frustration.

Though it was a strange occurrence, Jingyi felt lucky to witness an incident rarer than a blue moon.

"Sizhui, your skill on the guqin is already at a masterful level," Jingyi reasoned, abandoning his stick and instead opting for a rock.

"You'll improve in time, but for now that piece seems too hard to play."

Sizhui sat upright while Jingyi threw his rock up and down.

"It's been a year since my last improvement," Sizhui murmured as he stared at his guqin longingly.

It was true, he stayed at the same place he had been at one year ago. And although he was praised for being the most advanced youth player it disappointed him. Jingyi could tell easily.

Knowing Sizhui for thirteen years helped him realise how he carried himself.

How his eyes dropped when he was sad, how his face shined when he was happy. He'd seen it all.
