「 ACT ONE — CHAPTER TWO 」🍒

Yoko lightly tapped my shoulder, awakening me from my deep sleep. Sunlight beamed through our glass pane window brightly. I sat up on my bed, running my fingers through my hair. It quickly dawned on me that this would be my first day of Nevermore classes. I sprung out of bed, running to the bathroom connected to our dorm to get ready. Not wanting to look bad, I applied some light makeup and brushed my hair. The uniforms had been neatly folded inside of my wardrobe and fit almost perfectly. Headmaster Meeves had made sure that Yoko and I had similar schedules so that I could adjust to Nevermore more easily. I had my first class, herbology with her, but she had morning duties she had to report to before class. By the time Yoko and I got to the quad around nine in the morning, everyone was getting ready to head to class.

"Go into that corridor," Yoko said, pointing in it's direction, "and keep going until you reach the outside area. You'll see the big herbology greenhouse," I nodded, thanking her for her help. She told me goodbye, then took off in the opposite direction. I followed the directions that she provided me, and eventually ended up in the greenhouse. It was utterly mesmerizing, something I wouldn't have expected. The dew on the large glass window looked magical, and I looked forward to having class here in the mornings. I sat down at one of the desks towards the front, which had another seat that was unoccupied. I could hear two people behind me going back and forth as they walked into the greenhouse.

"Please just, listen-" a girl said frantically.

"No, Bianca. I'm not listening. I did lots of listening and it still led to this," I heard a boy reply back to her.

"You're not even trying to make this work. Please, Xavier," she begged. I tensed at his name. Xavier scoffed and I could hear footsteps nearing me. I should've known by the name Bianca that it was him being addtressed. As the thoughts of him clouded my mind, I hadn't even noticed someone pull out a chair and sit down beside me. I turned, seeing Xavier slump down into the chair beside me. He had another navy overcoat covering his striped uniform.

"I hope you don't mind if I sit here," he said, clearly still irritated from Bianca. I scoffed at his comment, rolling my eyes.

"Of course not," I quipped, "It's totally fine if you sit with me to avoid your ex-girlfriend." He eyed me for a moment, as if he didn't know how to respond to my comment, then sucked in his breath, preparing to speak.

"Look, I had no intentions of upsetting you," he said, looking at me, "Plus, who's to say I didn't want to sit here anyways?" I looked at him wide eyed with crinkled eyebrows. Had he just said that he willingly wanted to sit with me? My heart skipped a beat at the thought. "What's your name, anyway?" he asked.

"It's Ada," I replied calmly.

"I'm Xavier, it's nice to meet you," he said with a small grin, clearly not expecting me to answer him.

"I know who you are," I said. He raised an eyebrow at my comment.

"You do?" he answered curiously.

"It's easy to learn someone's name when all that's talked about is him and his ex-girlfriends breakup," I said. Deciding that I was finished with the conversation, I turned my head back towards the front. It was just my luck that our herbology teacher walked in shortly after. She had red hair with pointy glasses. Yoko had told me this morning that her name was Ms. Thornhill. After coming through the aisles the front, she turned around, enthusiastically smiling at each of us.

"Good morning, students. It's good to see you all. Today we will begin our hazardous herbs unit. But first, I'd like you all to meet our newest student, Ada Corsei," she said, turning her focus towards me. I smiled back at her, and then she continued on with the lesson. For majority of the class period I was stuck in a daze, with Xavier occasionally glancing over at me, until we were finally dismissed. I saw Yoko quickly walk out from the back of the classroom with another person. I picked up my bag and began heading to for greenhouse door when a voice stopped me.

"Ada, wait." I immediately recognized Xavier's voice. I paused, contemplating on if I should just continue walking, but decided to turn around, impatiently waiting for him to speak. "Look, I'm sorry if we started off on the wrong foot, that wasn't my intention." I rolled my eyes, chuckling at his comment.

"I'm sure it wasn't. I suppose that I can forgive you," I said teasingly. He smiled at my comment, and nodded. "But, if that's all, I'm hungry and would like to eat before my next class," I said, walking out of the greenhouse before he had the chance to respond.

After lunch and the rest of my classes with Yoko, I decided to head to the library. I loved to read, and it was something that I hadn't done much recently. To top it off, the Nevermore library was larger than I could have ever imagined. As I ascended down the grand staircase, I noticed a boy with brown hair and glasses franctically searching around for a book, before finally noticing me.

"Are you alright?" I asked. He gulped, before finally nodding at me. Sweat trickled across his forehead. I acknowledged his nod, then began looking for a book of my own. I spent a long time, but eventually found one that I'd borrow. Even after I'd picked it, I could still hear the boy I had seen earlier panting in the corner of the library. He sounded stressed, but I decided not to bother him since he'd confirmed that he was fine, even if he did seem odd. After browsing a bit more, I could tell he was growing increasingly irritated with my presence. I quickly picked up my books and exited the library, worried from the look in his eyes that he'd lash out. I'd have to ask Yoko about who he was tomorrow, because I didn't have a single clue.

note; i'm sorry it took me so long to publish!! i have been prepping for exams like crazy this week. since this chapter is a bit short, i'll do a double update next! xavier & ada will def start talking & interacting more!!
