ACT ONE — CHAPTER THREE 🍒

My first week at Nevermore had been more pleasant than I had expected. I spent majority of my time outside of class with Yoko and her friends or in the library. Xavier and I had occasionally spoken in herbology, but he didn't strike up much conversation after our conversation on my first day. As usual, Yoko and I headed down to the Quad once I finished getting ready. Yoko typically woke up early, so she was always ready before I was. We'd arrived earlier this morning, so it was still a bit more empty than usual.

"Yo, who's that gothic girl walking with Enid?" Jaiden asked as we set down. All of our eyes settled to the bubbly, blonde haired girl. I'd accidentally bumped into Enid earlier in the week and we'd exchanged names. At first, I didn't see anyone near her, but once I did, I could feel my skin go pale. My eyes were still trying to process who I saw. There was no way that Wednesday Addams was here. I hadn't seen her in years, even though we used to be friends, or mutuals as she called it. I sucked in my breath, still in shock from seeing her of all people at Nevermore.

"Are you okay, Ada?" Jules questioned. I turned back towards her, nodding.

"Yeah, I think I'm gonna head to class, though. I'll see you guys around," I replied, picking up my bags and walking towards the corridor. Before I even made it, though, I could feel Wednesday's presence behind me. I paused, not turning around to face her.

"Long time, no see, Ada." she spoke in her dull voice. I turned around, facing her. Wednesday's hair was longer, but her aura was even darker than it had seemed the last time I'd been around her.

"You look well," I replied, keeping my voice calm. Wednesday and I hadn't exactly been on the best terms when we stopped talking to eachother. We had been having several disputes, and when my father died, my mom cut us off from everyone else for a long time. Plus, Wednesday didn't believe that she needed a phone, so it wasn't like I could contact her even if I wanted to.

"Yes, I suppose that I would be well if my parents did not choose to trap me in a hellhole of an institution. I suppose each one has it's loopholes to escape, though." I rolled my eyes at her comment. There was the stubborn Wednesday that I knew.

"You haven't even given this place a chance, and you're already planning how you're going to escape?" I asked. "For once, you're somewhere where you have the chance to fit in. Don't tell me that you ever got that in public school." Wednesday stared directly at me for a few seconds before replying.

"I don't owe you, or anyone else, an explanation," she said indifferently without blinking.

"You're right. And I don't desire one. Enjoy Nevermore, Wednesday," I said while sighing, and then walked towards the greenhouse. I looked around at a few plants, then took a seat in the same place I had every day of the week, slumping down. Majority of the people walked in, including Xavier, a few minutes later. He glanced at me before sitting down.

"Rough morning?" he asked, sighing as he stretched out in his chair.

"You couldn't even imagine," I replied.

"Does it have something to do with a certain pale, black-haired girl that is new?" He questioned. I turned, facing Xavier.

"We used to be friends," I said simply, "But that was a long time ago. I don't enjoy dwelling on the past when it goes too far back." He nodded his head towards me, acknowledging my statement.
