They reached the restaurant, the city lights reflecting off the windows as they walked in. The evening had an electricity to it, a long overdue tension built over months of missing each other. They talked, laughed, and reminisced, trying to make up for all the moments they had spent apart, yet thinking constantly of one another.
By the time they left, the car ride back was charged with a quiet tension. Teju fidgeted slightly, her fingers twisting in her lap. Karan noticed instantly.
"How's the food?" he asked, breaking the silence.
"Umm... it was good," she replied, her voice soft.
"Music?" he prompted. "Any preference?"
"Whatever you like," she said, avoiding his gaze.
"You're thinking about something," he said gently.
"No," she murmured.
"I know you are," he said, reaching for her hand. "But listen... you don't have to do anything you don't want. I'll never push you. I promise. Just relax, okay?"
Teju looked at him briefly, a small smile tugging at her lips.
"That's all I need," he said.
"What?"
"Just keep smiling like that."
She reached out and caressed his chin. "You know how lucky I am to have you in my life."
"No," he replied, his thumb brushing her cheek. "I'm the lucky one. Will you be by my side forever?"
"Are you asking me out?" she teased.
"Didn't we just confess our love?" he countered.
"Yes, but I want a formal confession," she said with a mischievous grin.
He smiled. "I'll think about it."
"Do you still need to think?"
"Nope. You're my girlfriend. Period."
"Huh," she murmured, caught between amusement and disbelief.

Once at his apartment, Teju went straight to the bathroom. When she returned in casual pajamas, her eyes widened in surprise. Candles flickered softly around the room, and the scent of freshly popped popcorn wafted through the air.
"Are we watching a movie? Did you make this for me?" she asked, laughing.
"Yes. Only if you want," he said. "Do you have early morning tomorrow?"
"Why not? I have a day off. So... which movie?"
"Sci-fi or romantic?"
"Romantic," she said promptly.
He grinned. "Then let's watch this one."
They settled onto the recliner, her head on his shoulder. When he passed the popcorn, she straightened, interrupting the closeness. He cursed softly under his breath.
"I won't get tired," he muttered.
She frowned. "If you keep your head on my shoulder, you won't?"
He nodded. "Then don't. Stay close to me."
She relaxed, leaning in until her head rested on his chest.
"Happy now?" she asked.
He pressed a kiss to her hair. "Very."
"Are you sure you won't get bored? Do you think I'm weird?"
"I'm thrilled to have you. Never bored. And yes... you're a little weird, but exactly like me."
