By the time I showered and got dressed. Becky had woken up. I finish putting on my watch as I turn around to look at her. "Good morning sleeping beauty." She stretches and yawns dramatically as she does so. I like seeing her in my bed, for some reason.

I walk to her side to kneel beside the bed. "How'd you sleep?" I pull down her bonnet to cover the strands of hair that came out. "Good." She mumbles with her face halfway under the covers. "Okay, you want breakfast before I head out?" She jumps up and throws the covers off her body.

"I want to come with you. It's so lonely here by myself." Becky walks past me to go into my bathroom. "What? Charlie's here?" I smile as I stand up to follow her. "Yeah, but all he does is play slots all day and watch old westerns." That makes me laugh, because I know firsthand that, that is true.

"You don't even know where I'm going?" I watch her brush her teeth and wash her face. Watching her move comfortably in my space is nice too. "So." She shrugs. I wouldn't mind bringing her with me, it's always nice to have some company. "You got thirty minutes." She curses at the small-time frame.

I leave the room to give her space to do her thing. Outside, Charlie is waiting for me in the driveway. "Bec is coming too." I announce. Two guards sit across from me as two more stands outside the car to wait for her. Mikael usually sits in the passenger side with Charlie.

Tonight, I want to do something nice for her. I'm thinking about Planning a date for us. And I mean something nicer than dinner at some fancy restaurant. I want it to be special, because she deserves it. And I really want this to work.

I know that I can't force it. All I can do is lay my cards out and hope that she picks up the whole deck. Julia and Alicia sure as hell didn't.

I get out the car when she walks out of the house. It's been over thirty minutes, but I let it slide. "Let's go." I take her hand in mine. She's wearing sweats and a cropped top. It doesn't look lazy though, like the effort is there but the priority was comfort.

"You always look good." She gets in and I do so after her. "Charlie, Mikael is going to direct you." I have to yell a bit to make sure he heard me. "Yep." He replies then hits the gas. I'm surprised he hasn't run over more people than he has.

"Did you decide on what you wanted to do with Alice?" I drape my arm around her, and she scoots closer. Bec lays her head on my shoulder, and I kiss her forehead. "Yeah, Francis is working on a plan to get her put in jail. I figured that would be less harsh on her kids."

I'm only giving her the easy way out because I know how hard it is to grow up without a mom. That bitch is lucky. Any other person would have done way worse than that. "I still can't believe she did that. I thought she was better than that." I shrug.

"They never are." I try to keep what happened with Alice out of my mind. I just want to ignore how bad that had hurt me. My phone buzzes in my pocket as the car comes to a halt in front of Krispy Kream. As our guards are getting out, I dig my phone out of my pocket.

I answer it once I see that it's Francis. "Yeah?" I open the call without a greeting. "We have a slight situation. Granite has a warrant out for your arrest. You're wanted on four counts of murder. You need to lay low for a while." The sound of that tickles me.

"I kind of saw that coming. How did you find out?" I get out next and take Bec's hand to help her out. I then intertwine our fingers together as we walk inside. "I heard some cops talking about it when I took Alice there. They have a shit ton of cops looking for you bro. Can you just stay in one place, please?" There is concern in his voice, so I keep my remarks unsaid.
