___
So have you got the guts?
Been wonderin' if you heart's still open
And if so, I wanna know what time it shuts
___
Rosanna, Andrea, and Rick go up to the main level where the glass doors are. Mannequins surround them and clothes litter the floor.
Rosanna taps Andrea on the shoulder while Rick is checking ammo levels in his gun.
"He didn't deserve to have a gun shoved in his face. You should apologize."
Andrea gives a half nod. "I know. You're right."
She takes a deep breath before walking over to the man.
Andrea and Rick engage in some small conversation and Rosanna steps away to give them a moment.
A few minutes later as the trio searches for anything useful, Rosanna hears a soft gasp come from Andrea and she walks over to her friend who is leaning over a counter.
Rick also takes notice and walks over. "See something you like?"
"Not me, but I know someone who would... my sister. She's still such a kid in some ways. Unicorns, dragons... she's into all that stuff. But mermaids... they rule. She loves mermaids."
Rosanna smiles at that. She remembers that last year, she went over to Amy's house for her birthday.
She put together a whole mermaid themed gift basket. Amy loved it.
"Why not take it?" Rick asks her.
Andrea looks up almost shamefully. "There's a cop staring at me."
Rick laughs at that and Rosanna nudges Andrea's arm playfully.
Andrea smiles and takes it off the display.
"She'll love it." Rosanna says with a grin.
Andrea goes to say something when suddenly they hear shattering glass. The first set of doors have broken and the rotters are closer than before. Glenn and Morales join them just in time.
"Anything down there?" Rosanna asks Glenn.
He shakes his head. "Not a way out."
___
Back on the roof, the group is getting more distraught. Rick is deeply in thought as he looks over the edge, trying to think of anything to help them get out of this.
Rick looks over his shoulder at Morales. "That construction site, those trucks... they always keep keys on hand."
Jacqui glances down at the site. "You'll never make it past the walkers."
Rick considers this. "You got me out of the tank."
Glenn nods at this. "Yeah, but they were feeding. They were distracted."
"Can we distract them again?" Rick asks.
Some members of the group shrug at that.
Rick nods at Glenn. "They're drawn by sound right?"
Glenn nods and scratches his head. "Right, like dogs. They hear a sound, they come."
"What else?"
"Aside from they hear you? They see you, smell you and if they catch you, they eat you." Morales answers.
"They can tell us by smell?" Rick questions.
"You can't?" Rosanna asks.
"They smell dead, we don't. It's pretty distinct." Andrea replies.
The group heads downstairs to the main level and Rick explains his plan.
"If bad ideas were an Olympic event, this would take the gold." Glenn shudders.
"We need time to think this through Rick." Rosanna agrees, taking a half-step closer to Glenn.
"How much time? They already got through one set of doors, that glass won't hold forever."
She takes a breath. "What if it doesn't work?"
Rick pauses. "One way to find out."
___
Morales and Rick run outside and grab one of the rotters that was killed earlier. They drag its body in so that it's in the center of the group.
Rick and the others cover up to protect themselves from what's to come. He grabs a fire axe and is prepared to chop into the dead man, but he hesitates.
He reaches down and searches the man's pockets. He pulls out a wallet and opens it.
"Wayne Dunlap. Georgia license. Born in 1979. He had $28 in his pocket when he died... and a picture of a pretty girl. 'With love, from Rachel.' He used to be like us... worrying about bills or the rent or the Super Bowl. If I ever find my family, I'm gonna tell them about Wayne."
Glenn takes the wallet out of Ricks hands. "One more thing. He was an organ donor."
After a brief pause, Rick brings the axe down onto the rotter. Rosanna immediately looks away in horror and Glenn grabs onto her arm.
Everyone is gagging and freaking out. The stench rises into the air.
"I'm gonna hurl." Glenn says digging his face into Rosanna's shoulder.
"Don't because I'll throw up too." Rosanna says with a cough.
The group decided that her, Glenn, and Rick would go through the herd. Glenn tried to argue that she should stay with the others, but she refused.
If Glenn was going, she was going too.
They cover themselves head to toe in rotter guts to mask the scent of their human flesh.
"Oh God! Oh jeez. Oh, this is bad. This is really bad." Glenn says covering his mouth.
"Think about something else... puppies and kittens." Rick says, obviously trying to hold his breath.
"Yeah. Dead puppies and kittens." T-Dog says.
Glenn leans over and pukes on the concrete floor. Rosanna gags and looks away.
Andrea claps her hand on T-Dogs back. "That is just evil. What is wrong with you?"
"Next time let the cracker beat his ass." Jacqui says to Rick.
"My bad yo." T says apologetically.
"You suck." Glenn says wiping his mouth.
"Rosie." Andrea hands her gun to the woman. "Just in case."
She nods and takes a deep breath.
"If we make it back, be ready." Rick tells the others.
"What about Merle Dixon?" T-Dog asks.
Rick tosses the handcuff keys to him, and they head out the door.
