Main World, the morning of 1/16/2027, Sherry C. Beige Regional Park
When Leonard arrived in the parking lot that morning and got out of his car, the first thing he did on that frigid Saturday morning was to look for Rudy. Leo refused to believe that the events of yesterday, and hoped dearly that it was just a bad dream. While he didn't see Rudy, he did see Madeleine near the bathrooms.
"Ah, Maddie!" Leo called as he ran across the snow-covered field in her direction.
"Don't call me that!" she bristled.
"Madeleine!" Leo corrected himself. "Have you seen Rudy anywhere? It's time to do the debut, and-"
Madeleine scrunched the bridge of her nose with her finger and thumb in annoyance. "Oh my xern- Rudy and Sophia went through a portal in the sky yesterday, remember?"
"Darn!" Leo said, snapping his fingers in vexation. "I'd been hoping it was just a dream..."
"Besides, isn't the voting period usually 48 hours or so? It hasn't even been 24 hours yet."
Leo shook his head. "Not this time. I got in contact with the editors... whoever they are... and told them to cut the voting period in half for this time only, so we can do the debut sooner."
Madeleine crossed her arms and raised an eyebrow. "But why?"
"I don't think Rudy would want to do a debut this soon, so we need to get it done before he gets back so it's locked in."
"Speaking of 'locked in', if the voters let UFS join, which team will he be joining on?" Tree inquired from behind Leo, a smug look on his face.
"Gyah! Tree! Don't sneak up on people!" Leo shouted, jumping back as Madeleine giggled behind him. He sighed. "But... that's actually a good question that I hadn't really thought about..."
"To think I thought you were underestimating your ability to host," Madeleine muttered behind his back.
The temporary host snapped his fingers. "I got it. The team that gets Used Fire Stoney will be decided... by a challenge between the two smallest teams: Seribical and Teardrop's Team."
A/N As a reminder, Teardrop's Team is also known as ' '.
"Don't you think you're getting ahead of yourself, though?" Gaty asked. "I mean, we don't even know if Used Fire Stoney is joining in the first place."
"Actually, I do know," Leo said, pulling out a slip of paper. "I have the votes right here, and the winning side is winning by an overwhelming margin; so wide that the last couple of hours left in the voting period will almost certainly not change that."
"Okay, but which side is winning?"
Before Leo could answer, UFS snatched the paper from his hands.
"Ack! Hey! You can't just do that!" Leo shouted.
"Yes, I can, because I just did, dum-dum!" UFS retorted. He looked at the paper and fist-pumped.
"Yes!" the used fire stone cheered. "...is the side that won! 68445 to 29186, over two to one!"
"Now I'm wondering how there were so many votes in just 24 hours... but that doesn't matter because I should be congratulating you! Used Fire Stoney, welcome to the Battle for Dream Island Deluxe!"
Leo froze in place after saying this, which puzzled Used Fire Stoney.
"Um... why did you just... completely stop moving?
"Oh, that's the point where the editors are going to put the intro when they put this episode, 16b, together."
"So wait, if this is 16b, then did 16a follow Rudy and the other objects in that other world?" Madeleine asked.
