In the car on the way to meet Rikayla, my head was rested on the window, my mind as blank as a piece of paper. I felt May’s hand grab mine and my mind came back to Earth.
“Are you okay? I know you’re trying your hardest to get through to Raneesa.”
“She hates me! And I don’t exactly blame he-“
“Oii, you stop right there, Alli going missing was not your fault, you got that!”
“But I just-“
“I said stop!”
I sighed and leaned back on the window.
Within two minutes, we were at the park, where Rikaylah was waiting with her two year old daughter, Hannah.
Rikaylah and May were both twenty-three and they were best friends. They were so close that, May was Hannah’s godmother. I watched as Hannah wobbled to the ducks that were sitting in a group in front of us. I remembered back to when Raneesa was her age and how she used to do the exact same. I remembered how she fell and landed on a piece of bark and grazed her leg. I was only four, but some how I knew that my sister was hurt and that she needed me so I rushed over to the piece of bark, and smacked it in the place I assumed was it’s face. That made Raneesa laugh. She needed me back then and I was there, but now, at the time when we all needed each other, she wasn’t there for me. I tried to be there for her. I tried hugging, speeches and everything else but somehow, she managed to shut me out and pretend I was just a stranger that she had to live with. At first, I thought it was just a phase, but after two weeks of her not saying a word to me, I knew that she meant war.
An hour later, May and I were back in the car, on our way home. My eyes were closing and I could feel myself falling asleep. A few minutes later, I woke up and turned my head to look at May. I gripped the side of the car door in fear as a girl with long black hair was staring at May, I couldn’t see her face, but I could see that her hair was a mess and that her dress was smeared in dirt and ripped at the bottom. The girl slowly started to turn to face me, but before I let myself see her face, I wiped my eyes and she was gone, I was now staring at May.
“Are you okay, Sara?” Asked May. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost.”
“I do? Well I’m just really tired!”
“Whatever!” She said.
I rolled my eyes and turned my head to look out the window.
“She does love you, you know, Ranessa that is.” Stated May.
“Then why wont she show it?”
“She’s hurting!”
“And I’m not! Alli was, is my best friend, basically my sister, and she’s gone and-“
My eyes filled with tears as I felt the car pull over to the side of the road.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
She got out of her car and came over to the passenger side and opened my door. I took off my seatbelt.
“Why are we stopped off here?” I asked.
She pulled me out of the car and gripped me into a tight hug, tears pouring out of my eyes, bucket loads at a time.
"I just really miss Alli and I really want Raneesa to talk to me and i just-"
"I know, I know." She soothed.
I wiped my eyes as ay lead me back into the car. She got back into the car and started to drive again.
