THE SUN WAS THREATENING to peak into the sky at any moment, as bodies littered the barn. It had been a gruelling night, but somehow the living had triumphed over the dead. They had won the battle of strength. Now, everyone lay sleeping or resting, weary and worn. Nadia was slumped against the barn door, cautious of the unknown, sleeping somehow. She was so exhausted her body gave out, it couldn't care less if she was uncomfortable. Mud covered her hands and feet, thanks to the rain, again she couldn't find a reason to care. Deep within her bones, they begged for slumber. Finley, however, had found refuge closer to the once lingering fire. She was complaining about how damp her clothes were.

Surprisingly, night terrors stayed at bay. They usually nestled into her brain and haunted her but for the first time in the past few weeks, they had been fought off. The only thoughts that plagued her were hopeful ones. Last night showed her that the group were committed to keeping everyone safe, Nadia was pleased she had stuck with them. Raising and protecting Finley alone would have been difficult, without them she wouldn't have made it far. Especially, without him.

Three weeks of emotional turmoil showed her all of this.

"Nadia," A soft whisper tickled her sleeping mind. Her mind aching for sleep but forced her eyelids to flicker open to the unlit barn. No daylight. She closed them again, willing the carousel to return, for her mind to tumble back to dreams, but she fought against it.
