[ Nathan ]
Jazmine finally sat in the booth seat across from me. "Hey you." She smirked, giving me a flirty wink.
"Hey." I sipped my soft drink.
She didn't speak, only watched me with her blue eyes. Which only made me think of Maxey's. They're so bright and inviting. Her's were nice, too, but his were my favorite shade of blue.
"So," I cleared my throat after a few minutes of silence. "I wanna talk."
Her smile slowly faded.
"We've been together—what, since last Sunday...so almost a week. It's been a good almost week and—"
"You're breaking up with me?" Her bottom lip trembled.
"—Yeah."
"W-Why?"
I ran a hand through my hair. "It's not working out. We were barely even dating from the start."
"How is it not working out? What exactly isn't working out?"
"Everything, Jazmine."
"I can't believe you'd do this to me."
"You really don't know my reputation, do you?" I raised a brow and then shook my head. "This isn't even an account to my rep. The fact is, I don't want to be in a relationship with you. I never did. I don't even know why I asked you out in the first place." That was a lie. I had a great reason why I asked her. But maybe I was the only who'd think it was great.
"Who is she?" Jazmine demanded, breaking me out of my thoughts.
"She is nobody."
"Obviously there's some other girl in the picture if you're breaking up with me." She pointed at herself. When she realized I was being dead serious, she huffed and stood up. "I can't believe you would break up with me in a public place." She grumbled and grabbed her purse. She walked rather angrily out of the diner we were in just as a blonde girl and two women dressed in business suits came in.
I felt relief wash over me. At least that was done. Now for what was really important.
"Nathan." Alyssa stepped to the booth.
"Alyssa." I said as hers and my own lawyers sat in the booth.
"Mr. Stanton." Alyssa's lawyer, Laura something, held her hand out.
I shook it.
"So, we're just signing off all of Alyssa's maternal rights, correct?" My own lawyer, Kristen Phillips, said.
"That's right." Alyssa nodded, rubbing her belly, as Laura presented custody papers.
"So...if Alyssa could just sign here...here...here...and here," Laura pointed to each dotted line.
Alyssa signed her name in all of the appropriate places and gave me the pen, "Now, Nathan, if you could sign here...here...here...here...here...and here."
I signed each place and then we all ended up shaking hands. The two lawyers left, leaving Alyssa and I by ourselves.
"Thank you for this." I said as she was getting up to leave as well.
She looked down at her bump and back up at me. "Yeah, well, it's no biggie." She smiled and winked.
I watched her leave and sat there for a moment to process everything that just happened. Now to do something that was equally just as important as gaining custody of my unborn child.
"Hey, Mrs. Lowell," I said as I let myself in their house. Max gave me an extra house key, and his mom made sure my mom had one, too. And vice versa.
