"A new student?" I raised a brow in surprise and ruffled a hand through my unruly black hair.
"Yep."
"Why am I just now hearing about this?"
Sebby gave me a really look and I flushed in annoyance and shifted my attention back to the pencil I'd been using to tap against my notebook. It looked like it was going to be a while before the teacher got situated.
"All right I get it." I stared at him from the corner of my eye. "No need to be mean about it."
"Just saying maybe you should pay attention more." He held his hands up in defense and turned forward in his seat.
"Well sorry if I don't find getting a new student that Interesting." I defended myself. "They're probably just gonna be another person I only talk to when a project is assigned."
Sebby shrugged. "Who knows? Maybe they'll take your spot as number 1."
I scoffed at the mere thought. I'd been at the top of my class since Middle school when I switched from homeschooling. I got no less than 100% on each test and knew I'd be valedictorian for my graduating class.

A knock came on the door, interrupting my thoughts.
I heard whispers like:

I rolled my eyes and tapped my pencil faster. Sebby shot me an annoyed look that I easily ignored.
Though I kept my face blank on the outside I had to admit I was a little smidge curious as to who the new student was.
Mostly just because Sebby had got in my head a little about my number 1 spot being stolen.
