It takes two to love

Chapter five

I opened my eyes slowly; it hurt to move my lids. I looked around as everything slowly came into focus. The room was wide; the door seemed so far away; my body hurt so badly. I looked over to the window; a drip was being passed into my hand.

Suddenly someone walked in; I couldn't place his face at first. He grabbed a chair and sat next to me, he still didn't know I was awake. He drank out of the cup slowly before looking at me.

"Cathy, hey"

He quickly placed the cup on the floor close to the chair and walked over to my bed, bending over me.

"Err... hello" I managed to say, a confused look on my face.

"I'm so glad you're awake"

"Daniel, what are you doing here?" I said sitting up.

"Here, let me help you"

"I'm fine" I stopped him from touching me as I adjusted myself.

He looked stomped at first before a look of realization dawned on his face. Before he could say anything, two men and a girl walked in; I still couldn't see that clearly.

"Cathy!" the girl screeched and I was immediately pulled into the arms of my best friend.

"Hey Eunice" I smiled at her as she stared at me; her eyes were swollen like she'd been crying for hours.

"Catherine..." I heard one of the men say, the other one was probably a doctor. My father looked at me; a pleading look in his eyes, he looked so helpless. I opened my hands slowly and he squeezed me in a heartwarming hug.

"Baby, I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry" he cried on my shoulder and I broke down too. I couldn't cry like I wanted to; my body was too tired to but I hugged him with all the strength I had in me.

He let me go looking at me in the eyes and kissed my forehead.

"I love you daddy" it was the first time I was ever going to say that to anybody. He looked at me; mouth agape.

"My princess, my little girl; I love so much more honey. I'm so sorry I let all this time go by; so sorry sweetheart." He kept pleading.

"It's alright dad but what's he doing here?" I pointed at Daniel who stood there; his hands in his pockets as he stared at the floor.

"He saved your life honey; he found you in your room and brought you here. Why would you do that Catherine" my dad said and I looked at Daniel.

"Can I speak to him alone, please?" I looked pleadingly at my dad.

He nodded; Eunice walked out of the ward with my dad and the doctor.

"Why'd you save me?" I gave him a stern look.

"What?"

"You heard me?"

"Cathy, what I said; I didn't know it'd hurt you" he looked weaker, not the stone cold soul I'd met a few days ago.

"Well, you shouldn't go around saying things you have no idea about"

"I'm sorry, I was so ignorant. Forgive me, please" he had walked over to my bed and held my hand in his palms; looking into my eyes intently.

"You were right" I said to him as I searched his eyes.

"No I was wrong. I didn't know you or what you were going through. I made a mistake, a big one and I'm sorry. I'm sorry Catherine"

"I'm Catherine" I looked at him as I stretched my hand to him.

"I'm Daniel. Thank you." He said taking my hand and exposing a fine set of teeth. I smiled back.
