It was early in the morning, and Jake and I were waiting in the dark train station. I hadn't returned back to the apartment until nearly two o'clock that same morning, so I was very tired. Jake and I didn't say much to each other, for he knew I was still angry at Dad, and just wanted to be left alone. I wasn't sure what I would say to Dad when I got home, or what Dad would say to me.

Eventually, we were on the train. We wouldn't get back until late that evening, so I was hoping that Dad might be asleep by the time I got home.

Sometime into the ride, Jake encouraged me to call my mom. I was still upset with my mom, but because of the current situation with Dad, the issues between Mom and I seemed to have been so long ago. Reluctantly, I gave in and dialed my Mom's number.

"Mom? It's Trinity," I said softly.

"Trinity? Trinity, are you coming home today? You're father's really upset that you're staying in Baltimore. Please tell me you're coming home," Mom said back, softly, probably trying not to attrack the attention of Dad.

"I'm on the train right now. How mad is Dad?"

"Oh, you know him. He'll be ok though," It was strange the way Mom was talking to me now. She sounded like an average mom. She sounded professional and responsible. It was strange how Mom was two completely different people. At one moment she'd sound like an irresponsible, junkie, and the next, a completely average, normal person.

"Are you sure? And, is everything ok with you two?"

"Oh, we're fine. I shouldn't have left. I overreacted. We've both gotten over it by now. We just both want you home."

"Well, I'm on my way. Is Harmony alright?"

"Harmony's fine. It's so weird how this stuff never affects her."

"Yeah, it never affects her..." I mumbled.

"What?"

"Nothing. Anyways, are you sure Dad's not mad. Is it --- safe --- for Jake to drop me off?"

Mom laughed at my question, "Of course, honey. I'll see you later."

"Alright, bye."

"Bye."

Surprisingly, the reassurance from Mom meant nothing to me. I still believed my Dad was out to kill me. I knew he was still mad, and I knew bringing Jake around the house was definitely not safe.

I walked home from Jake's house; it was safer that way. I unlocked the front door and stepped into the house. It felt as though I hadn't been home in forever. "Mom! I'm Home!" My voice echoed around the house. It was late, and the house was dark. I started to wonder if anyone was awake. I started walking deeper into the house. I turned around the corner that lead into the sun room in the back end of the house. There, was my Dad. He was standing there with his arms crossed, "Your Mom's asleep."

I inadvertently took a few steps back. "Um, hi, Dad..." I muttered.

"Hello, Trinity. Is Jake with you?" He questioned me, his voice sounding deeper, darker than usual.

"No." I managed to say softly.

"He's lucky." Dad sneered.

I didn't say anything. I just stood there in the dark room, terrified ---- of my own father.

"You have some explaining to do."

"I do?" I asked, nervous.

"Yes, much to explain. First, why would you ever be stupid enough to go to Baltimore with Jake? Did you really think I would be ok with it?" He said in a menacing manner.
