Kota's POV
I stare at her. She glances over and spots me. Her eyes widened. I turn back around and pretend I didn't see her.
Why is she here? She can ruin the plan! Think so something to say or do so you don't gotta talk to her!
"Uh, Zenitsu!!" I call out. He turns his focus to me.
"Yes, Kota-chan??"
"Want to... go pick some flowers with me??" I blurt. This is one of the dumbest lies I ever came up with. I mentally slap myself.
"Kyahhh! Of course, Kota-chan~! Anything for youuu!!" He smiles and crawls over to me. He takes my hand and drags me out. I glance over at Yasu before being dragged out.
We head out to the backyard and kneel down next to some flowers. I pick a pink flower and hand it to Zenitsu. "Here you go."
He takes it from my hand and spins it around. "Kota-chan... is something bothering you?"
I look at him in surprise. "What?"
"Well, your heartbeat changed when you saw Yasu-chan."
What the- "My... heartbeat?"
He scratches his head. "I have... good ears?"
"Um. No, nothing is bothering me." I lie.
"Hm. You're lying, but I won't bug you to say it."
"Oooh~! Zenitsu! Such a gentlemen~!" I laughed and teased him. His face goes red. I swear I saw steam coming out of his ears.
--------------------
"So," Rengoku-san says. I'm with him to train for my breathing. "In order to do any kind of breathing style, you need to transport oxygen to every corner of your body."
Alright then. Here goes nothing. I breathe in deeply. I think I'm doing goo-
I cough, when I feel someone punching my stomach. "Wrong."
I hold my stomach and look up. Tomioka-san?
"What am I supposed to do?" I ask, still holding my stomach.
"Try again." He says, fixing my posture.
Rengoku-san pats Tomioka-san's shoulder. "You're a great teacher, Tomioka!"
--------------------
I groan in pain because I have now been hit in the stomach 7 times. I glance at Tomioka-san. Does he even have a heart?
I take a deep breath before getting into position.
"Also," He says, "You might be able to create a new style of breathing. It just comes naturally from what I've heard."
I nod. I breathe in deeply, before letting it out. Something is different this time. My lung burns slightly in a different way. I feel coldness around me.
"Whoa!" Rengoku-san exclaims. "That's cold! What was that?"
"Looks like you've made a new breathing style. It's not like anything else, is it?" Tomioka-san says, crossing his arms.
New breathing style? Me? I made it?
Rengoku-san ruffles my hair. "Great job, kiddo! How'd it feel? What are you going to name it?"
"Well..." I say, thinking. "It felt icy, so I'm going to simply call it Ice breathing."
"Original! I like it!" Rengoku-san laughs. I remind myself once again not to get attached.
"Sorry, I... I need to use the restroom." I excuse myself and quickly walk away. Maybe I can write a letter to dad. I haven't talked to him in awhile.
I grab a  sheet of paper and a brush. I run into the restroom and close the door. I start writing.
Dad!
How are you doing? I'm doing okay. I'm making sure I don't get too attached to the people here. I've been training with the water hashira. He's quiet, so I don't have to talk to him often. I met all the hashiras. I also made a new breathing technique, and it's called Ice breathing! I think when I was hanging out with Akaza, I heard him say something about you having a similar blood demon art. I guess it makes sense, 'cause we're family, right? I hope you're doing well.
Love, Kota!
I fold the paper in half, and open the door. I poke my head out and look before heading outside. I put the letter in my pocket. I'll give it to Akaza and make him deliver it to my dad! I'll find him.. somehow.
--------------------
It's just a little past midnight. I get up from my futon quietly, and grab my haori. I double check the letter in my pocket, and head out.
The midnight breeze greets me. I dash out the gate, and head into town. I run around for awhile, but I don't spot Akaza anywhere. I sigh. I enter a quiet alleyway and play with my hair.
"Kota...?" I hear a low voice call. I jump back and look up. Kokushibo-dono!
"Kokushibo-dono!" I say, running towards him. "Nice to see you!"
He nods. I grab the letter in my pocket. "Do you mind giving this letter to my dad? Also, be careful! The hashiras live around here."
He grabs the letter from my hand, and puts it in his pocket. "Okay... and don't worry..."
I grin and wave goodbye. He runs off. I stay there for a second and run the other direction. I have to go back before anyone notices me gone.
When I'm running back, I hear a familiar voice call me.
"Ara ara, Kota! What are you doing out here so late?"
