Kota's POV

"I- I lost it.." I stutter. He gets up and stands in front of me. I gulp. Cold sweat is running down my face. Why do I have to make everything so obvious?

"My crow followed you, so be honest with me." He says calmly. "Where is the Wisteria?"

His crow followed me? Isn't that stalking? He snaps his fingers which gets my mind on track.

I sighed. "I... I threw it away.."

"You did?" He asks. I nod, but stop. Wait what?

"I thought you knew?"

He leans back on the wall and shakes his head. "My crow is old. He has bad vision."

My jaw nearly touches the floor. "YOU LIED TO ME??"

He nods like it's the most obvious thing in the world.

My lips slowly form a grin. "Hee~! Tomioka-san, that's impressive! You made it sound so natural!"

He looks at me blankly for a second. "Kochou hates that word. I should probably let you know- the word 'Hee' bothers her because of... a specific demon her sister fought."

Oh. My dad uses that word a lot. Maybe he fought her? Who knows, there might be other demons who use that word. It's not like he's the only one.

"Am I ready for the final selection yet?" A question suddenly pops into my brain.

"You practiced your breathing styles?" He asks. I nod. "You can use your katana well?" I nod again. "Okay. You are ready. Just-" He pauses and looks at me. "Just- be careful... please." He mutters, glancing away.

"Of course I will." I reply, yawning. "I really should go to bed though."

He nods and pats my shoulders. "Good night."

--------------------

I groan as the Sun blinds my eye. I bring the blanket over my face to cover it. I relax for awhile until my peaceful moment is broken by the door sliding open.

"Whattt..." I say sheepishly, pulling my blanket away.

"Final selection. Turns out it's today. Get ready if you want to go." Tomioka-san orders, and I scurry out of bed.

"TODAY???" I panic, grabbing my clothes.

He has a blank expression on his face. "Why do you never act like that in front of the other hashiras?"

I pretend I didn't hear him, and focus on getting ready. "GET OUT!! I'M GOING TO CHANGE!!"

He sighs and shuts the door, and I put my clothes on in a flash. When I open the door, nearly breaking it into pieces, Tomioka-san is not even down the hall yet. I run past him making him stumble. I run out to the backyard and wash my face with cold water.

"My katana!!!" I yell, running back into the house, bumping into him again making him stumble once more.

I spot my hairpin on the counter with my sword, and put it on carefully. I adjust it to my liking. "I'll get going now!" I say grabbing my sword, running out to the gate.

"Do you even know where you are going?"

I skid to a stop. I turn around calmly and face him. "Where is the final selection being held at, Tomioka-san?"

"Mount Fujikasane." He answers, walking up beside me. "You should be able to see it walking towards that direction," He points towards the road. "Ask people for direction, is what I recommend. You should be able to arrive in about an hour."

"Thanks." I say and dahs off, waving goodbye. He gives me a small wave, but doesn't head inside. He watches me until I can't see him anymore.

--------------------

I've been running for quite a while now. I've asked some people for directions. Some people were nice, some people were crappy.

I see the Mountain coming into view. I pick up my pace because the sun is beginning to set. When I arrive at the bottom of the mountain, I see that there are many flights of stairs. I sigh. I hate this.

By the time I reach the top, my legs are trembling. Going up stairs is much harder than running.

I look up and see that there are many people here. We are also surrounded by many Wisteria trees. I look further and see two twins standing soullessly.

They say something, but I ignore it. I just need to survive, don't I? The people start walking inside the woods, so I follow. Just survive.

The Wisteria trees are gone by the time I walk into the battle area. I guess this is how they trap the demons.

I run towards the other side of the mountain, where the others seem to be heading. I lose them quickly though, because they start losing breaths. I thank Akaza for my stamina.

"Hey, food!" I hear a lousy demon charging me. I turn and take out my sword.

Ice breathing, first form. Frost lotuses. (Yes I'm copying Douma's blood demon art, because A/N does not have creativity of her own. Surprise.)

I swing my sword towards the demon's neck, and slice it.

"What?!" It shouts, fading away. "What the heck is Ice breat-"

"Have fun in hell!" I smile and turn my back at him. I walk away and hum to myself. I'm supposed to deal with these trashes for 7 days??

--------------------

Seven days have passed, and I'm now standing where the selection ends. I'm shocked because we started more than 30 people, and there are only 3 people including me.

Now it's time to pick a rock to create our katana with, or something. I didn't pay attention. The people grab whatever they see, but I take my time. A small rock catches my attention, so I go for it. It has some tiny blue crystals in it. It sparkles brightly in the sun.

The twins clap their hands and I look around to see what's happening. 3 crows land on the other's shoulders. I gasp. The kasugai crows.

My bird is different, though. A white, fluffy looking bird lands perfectly on my hand. I examine its beauty.

It's a shima enaga.

This tiny bird is going to be my 'crow'? I don't mind, though. I place the bird carefully on my shoulders. The bird follows along.

The twins said the rocks we chose are going to be sent to the katana makers. They said something about Hotaru?

I shrug and start climbing down the mountain. I have no need to stay. My main focus is to go home to Tomioka-san and show him my cute bird.

"Excuse me for interrupting your thoughts," someone says closely beside me. I yelp and jump back. I look around but see no one there. I turn around 360 degrees but still no one.

"Who's hiding behind me?" I yell, trying to grab the person that just whispered in my ear.

The shima enaga that was on my shoulder flies up, and lands on my hand. I lift it up to my eye level. Why did it just fly off of me?

"I'm right here. I'm talking to you." The bird says. I freeze.

We stare at each other with blank expressions.

"UAHH!!!"
