Ruby,
if we don't do something, what they did will tear away at you forever.
If you want justice for your father- I know what we can do.
Meet me at the graveyard.
Love, T

Ruby sighed, taking a lighter from her pocket and setting the corner of the paper on fire.

She watched, mesmerised, as the flame engulfed it.

As the fire nipped at her fingertips, she dropped it onto the floor, stomping it out.

She couldn't explain what she was feeling inside- it was such a confusing mix of emotions she couldn't understand.

Tate could help her, couldn't he? Ruby thought.

She loved Tate, and he loved her- he'd do anything to make things right for them, and vice versa.

Kathy had asked Ruby to stay in her dorm, instead of going out that afternoon.

She had gone back to the station to sort some things out, sign some papers.

Kathy had said 'until you're eighteen, I'm in charge of your safety and welfare- your legal guardian. I just want the best for you.'

Ruby didn't know whether it was the truth anymore.

Everything in her mind was so muddled up and twisted, she didn't feel herself.

Tate was the answer, Tate was the solution. He'd solve all her problems.

-That's what she reassured herself as she snuck out the housing, and to the cemetery.

"Hi!" Ruby greeted as she swung herself over the graveyard wall.

"Hey, almost thought you weren't coming for a second there," Tate pulled her into a swift kiss, staring into her eyes as he pulled away. "You look tired,"

"I am. I just want justice for my dad, like you said. So- what's your plan then?" Ruby replied, sitting herself cross-legged on one of the crypts.

Tate leaned against a tombstone opposite her, his dirty blonde hair falling over his eyes.

He pursed his lips and gazed at her, plotting his words carefully.

He came up with a question as opposed to an answer. "What are you willing to do?"

Ruby was slightly taken aback, but as she opened her mouth, a sudden wave of anger came over her- a reminder of all the pain Kaleb had caused her.

She knew exactly what she wanted to do.

"I could... kill them... Tate... I know it sounds absolutely crazy... but I would," she said nervously.

Thankfully, Tate nodded understandingly.

Ruby's eyes widened, and she continued. "So...? What did you think we could do? What was your idea?"

Tate's expression darkened as their eyes met. "Exactly that, Ruby. We could kill them."

Her mouth opened slightly, as if she was going to say something, but no words came out.

Tate stood up and took a step forward so Ruby's knees brushed against his striped jumper. He put his hands on her thighs, not taking his eyes off her.

"We can kill them, and then run away. It'll just be me, you, and the ghosts- forever," he whispered.

Butterflies of anxiety stirred in Ruby's chest, a warning sign.

But she dismissed them- shooting them down like a poacher searching for a new specimen to sell.

She put her hand's round Tate's neck and pulled him close. "I'd love that,"

They kissed slowly, and all her nervousness melted away in an eerie and unfamiliar dark intent.

And so their fate was decided.
