Chapter 16

Cara and Mitsuru were both rushing to have us ready in time. I took the longest to prepare as I had to get dressed, put make up and do my hair. This all felt useless to me. I was going to watch father and son tear at each other throats for the title of king.

Though, I had to admit, I look amazing. My hanfu was longer then usual, and the red fabric shone. There was so much detail that I really felt like a queen.

"Wonderful princess. You look just... wow..." Cara did a walk around me and looked in awe. I blushed and looked towards Mitsuru who seemed to be enjoying what she saw.

"W-what about Aqua? Is he ready?"

Mitsuru nodded, "He's waiting in the living room."

I moved slowly and carefully, this outfit should be consider weight lifting because it's too heavy!

There Aqua was, pacing back and forth in his golden armor.

"I can do this..." he was mumbling to himself, trying to pump himself up.
"Do this for yourself. For the people. For... for her."

He was doing his best for me. For the sake of everyone around him.

"Aqua..." I made my way to him, he gave me a small smile.

"Mari, there is something I've been meaning to tell you."

"What? Is something wrong?!" It was a really bad time for things to go wrong.

"Tell me, how did you know me name when we first met?"

I paused, "I... It's what I called you. In my dreams..." he was always there in my dreams, protecting me.

"Is is not...?" Was I wrong?

He shook his head "My given name here is... Shuang. On Earth, it means hope but I hated my name." He stepped away from me and moved towards the window where you could see the stadium.

"My father named me. He pretty much picked something random and gave me it. He could of called me the devil and it wouldn't matter. Because he was planning on killing me anyway."

I followed after, grabbing his hand.
"I won't let him hurt you."

He sighed, "I know. That's why I took the name you gave me instead. Because I knew you honestly cared for me." I felt his arms wrap around me, pulling me to him.

"With you, I feel like I can do this. That I can actually win this." our foreheads touched as he leaned down to me.

"Should I still call you Aqua or...?"

He laughed, "Personally, Aqua is best for me. I'd rather have a name give to me by someone who dreams about me then someone wants me dead!"

I couldn't help but giggle "Alright Aqua. We better get out there soon. You have duel to win!!" We hug each other, a warm and lasting hug.

"Aqua, it's time." Cara came into the room holding the for open.

He nodded and gave me a soft peck on the cheek.
Cara showed us out and led us down to the arena where Aqua's father waited for us alongside his council.

We stopped a few feet away from them, tension raising in the air.

"Today we prove that no one will be able to replace me as king." his voice was so sure of himself, I nearly cringed.

"Then let's get started if you are so sure of yourself." Aqua manage to match his tone with ease, letting my hand go as he stepped up.

"Stop, I will not fight you."
His words caught everyone's attention. Our eyes met, biting into me as he smirked.
"As your mate, she must prove herself to me, to all. What better way to do that then to earn the throne?"

I felt all the anxiety in me catch in my throat. He was challenging me.

"She-!" Aqua moved in front of me, hiding me behind him. "She should not be the one fighting since I challenged you."

His father gave a laugh that echoed the room, "Did you forgot? I chose my opponent." he spoke as if he already won and I'm pretty sure he has.

Aqua stepped aside, giving me a look that made my stomach twist. I felt for my crystal in my sleeve.
I was nowhere near prepared to fight him or fight anyone in general. I was weakened from constantly having energy to Aqua.

But for his sake, I have to try. He'll lose everything and I can't let that happen. I won't let it happen.

"Okay. I'll fight you." I stepped forward, brushing past Aqua.
"Mari..." I sensed him try to reach out for me but he didn't grab me.
"Good luck."
Both I and Aqua's father walked down the stairs, into the ring.

I was going to need more then luck. I needed a miracle.
