Chapter 3

Marisol waited until Aqua came back during the night, with food and a blanket. She glared at him as he set the things down.

"What's wrong?" he looked confused

"Why did you take kids from my school?"

He froze, and did a side glance at the walls. They went back to metal walls shortly after they faded.

"I saw them Aqua. What are they doing here?!" She stood up, walking up to him. She wrapped her arms around herself. Being strong is kinda hard when you can't stop shivering.

"My people use the life force of humans to power our kingdom. But as of late, we've run very low on humans. I teamed up with Serpent to grab a large load of them but I won't need them for a while."

"What? Why would you do something like-?" She cut herself off.

He wouldn't need them for a while... Because he has her.

Marisol immediately jumped back, pressing herself against the wall. "Get away from me." She hissed. Aqua gave her a pained expression "Marisol-." He reached out for her "No!! You're just going to use me!! Get away!!" She screamed, shutting her eyes tightly.

"Please just listen to me!" He grabbed her shoulders.

"NO!" She screeched, feeling something in her snap.

For a moment, pure silence. White noise. Then a groan from across her cell.

She slowly opened her eyes and gasped to see Aqua against the cell door. Black and white burn marks running up his arms and along his face. Someone nearby sobbed followed by someone else groaning. She turned to her right, and fell to her knees at the sight. Her friend Shireen and Sarah had similar burns but redder and bleeding.

"Oh my god!" Marisol flung herself at the bars, reaching for them. "I'm so sorry! I didn't mean to hurt you guys!!! I-I can't control..." Marisol's voice faded, her vision blurring. She rubbed her eyes and reached for them. "Please come here..."

Shireen slowly went to her, holding her arm out. Marisol ran her hand up her arm and a slow glow surrounded her hands as she healed her. She fully healed Shireen and Sarah, and watched them scrabble away.

Her vision was blurring heavily but Aqua was still injured even though it's his fault. She forced herself up and wobbled her way to his side. He blinked slowly, waking up. "Hell... I didn't know you were so strong." He chuckled and winced in pain. "Hold still please." She laid her hands on both arms, running upwards. She moved to his face, caressing his cheeks.

They stared at each other for a moment. Both had sorry eyes, mentally apologizing to one another.

"My chest... It got hit..." Aqua mumbled, sluggishly raising his hand onto his chest. Marisol placed her hand over his and pulled up his shirt. "Okay." She leaned over and kissed his hand. She isn't supposed to see him so weak.

She pulled away, holding her hands against her chest.

"I wasn't going to use you."

Marisol looked up at him, surprised.

"Maybe at first but I don't think I could handle watching you go through the process. I want you to stay by my side." He didn't look at her.

"What about them? Are you still going to use them?"

"You know the answer already. I have too."

Marisol hunched over, cupping her face. "Use me instead." She whispered so softly Aqua barely heard. And he wishes he didn't. "Never." He stuggled to stand up and left her without a word.
