It had been almost a year since Jimmy had seen Scott and it was starting to tear him apart like a monster mutilating its prey. His husband had been recruited into the army to try defeat Dogwarts once and for all. He remembers protesting, begging Grian to let him go as well, but the red-sweatered avian had refused, leaving Scar at home as well.
He understood. Being a red life, going out on that type of mission could have lead to his death. He wouldn't have seen Christmas this year, wouldn't have seen if the Red desert, flower valley and other smaller alliances could win the war.
But he missed Scott. Scar seemed to miss him aswell. Maybe it was because his partner's humour was similar in ways. And by that it meant Scar could act dumb as he had no clue what the point of Scott's joke actually was. Really, Scar missed Grian. The one person he should have hated more than anyone else. The man who killed him on day one and yet teamed-up with him.
Part of Jimmy thought something else might be going on behind closed doors. That wasn't his business though; he had no place or right to ask (he did have a bet going on with Scott though).

It was Christmas eve. Scar had walked over to the flower valley to spend time out of the desert. It was quiet; peaceful. It was nice. But the quiet was also loud. Too loud. It made it hard to think or distract himself from the obvious absence of Grian.
Jimmy was nice though. He was missing his partner too. It made them click, something the same about each other they could talk about when they wanted to. It helped. Took the weight off of his shoulder, made him enjoy the evening more, allowed him to see the beauty surrounding him.
Yet Scar could feel eyes. Familiar and mischievous. He wasn't sure if it was just his head playing tricks on him, or if he still had a sixth sense for Grian.

All I want for Christmas is you
The music seemed to come from behind Jimmy's house, along with two very familiar laughs. Jimmy almost dove straight into their pond, Scar reaching out just in time before dragging him over the hill, swerving in and out of trees as they went.
There, stood together, swaying to Scott's favourite Christmas song, were their partners. Jimmy's husband. Scar's friend, best friend. Smiling softly at them, covered in cuts and bruises, holding a white flag.
"We called a Christmas truce. Fighting stars late Jan/ early Feb."
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you- - - -
That night, the four of them laid under the stars, thanking whatever was out there they could be together. Even if it was for the last time, even if they had hundreds of times left to enjoy. All that mattered was them, there and then.
