"How is there an ocean up here?" he exclaimed, staring out at the tranquil water. "Only held back by what is basically a dam?"
Robyn held out her Seeking Mechanism and pressed a button on its back. The device levitated into the air and pointed out to the ocean before thrusting in that direction, leaving a beam of purple particles in its wake.
"Wherever the lab is, it's across the ocean," she said as the device returned to her hand.
William thought back to Firstworld geography. The entire land was basically a large island, surrounded on all sides by the ocean, and travelling too far into the ocean would result in running into an invisible wall, not being able to go any further from shore.
If the same was the case here, what if it turned out the lab was somehow beyond the wall? What if it was inaccessible?
"Let's go," he said. It was no use worrying until it became a problem.
He, Robyn, Sid and Meg were all wearing Angel Treads, which inherited the water-walking ability of Terraspark Boots. Permafrost cast a spell to freeze a line of water in front of him, creating an icy path thick enough for the citizens to walk on.
William's worries turned out to be for naught, as they soon got so far from the shore that he could barely see it any more than just a line of sand with some palm trees sticking up, appearing to be the size of a person at that distance. Down below, he could see the pink glow of some jellyfish and the occasional shadow of what was probably a shark, but he'd had enough of those after that sandstorm last night.
"How big is this ocean?" Sid exclaimed. "If the Pirate was still alive he'd make some joke about our sea-legs."
The mention of one of their fallen comrades felt like a dull blow against William's heart.
He didn't want to think about all of that needless death. From that creation born from Yharim's twisted mind and Draedon's dubious experiments.
"Let me check the Seeking Mechanism again," Robyn said. "If it starts pointing higher in the sky, it'll mean we're getting pretty close."
She got it out of her inventory and held it up, but William noticed the purple glow of the device had faded.
"It's out of charge," she said.
"Then charge it up," Meg said.
William reached into his inventory and got out a Charging Station and some Draedon Power Cells, handing them to Robyn.
"I'll need to drop down to the ocean floor in order to place that," she said. She got out the Arctic Diving Gear from her inventory and put it on, the ice-blue mask covering her entire head.
"Sid, come down and cover me," she added.
He nodded, and William watched as the two of them sunk beneath the sea.

Robyn glanced around, memories of dropping into the Abyss rushing through her, but she needn't worry. The ocean floor wasn't far below, and Sid's butterfly summons were flinging themselves about super quickly, attacking all of the nearby jellyfish and other sea life. They were completely safe.
She landed on the sandy floor, getting out the Charging Station and placing it next to a starfish. She put the Purple Seeking Mechanism into its top slot and the Draedon Power Cells into the bottom slot. The machine began to chug away, the Seeking Mechanism's charge counter dialling upward, slowly reaching 100%.
That was when she heard the voice.
It sounded feminine, strangely pleasant and soothing, like a lone member of a chorus. Its melody swelled and undulated, the treat of a concert from something down here.
