"You may learn Joe, that some of us can't be bullied, even some reporters." Katherine herd Jack say. Her heart fluttered as she realized he was talking about her. She couldn't see his face because her father had made her sit in a chair that was facing the opposite direction.

"Such as that young reporter Katherine, truly talented and beautiful I might add." Pulitzer said sitting at his desk. Katherine didn't like the tone of his voice, a feeling of unease settled over her. She was in the same room as Jack and her father, she didn't like the look of things.

"She sure is." Jack said a smirk clear in his voice and no doubt present on his face "I'll tell her youse said so."

"No need she can hear it herself." Pulitzer said, Katherine's heart dropped as she realized what was gonna happen next. "Dear." He said, reluctantly she stood up out of her chair and faced Jack. "I trust you know my daughter, Katherine."

The look of betrayal and anger on Jacks face would forever be seared into Katherine's mind. He took a step back and Pulitzer chuckled.

"I tried to tell you Jack-" Katherine said stepping toward him, but Pulitzer lifted his hand to stop her.

"Yes, my daughter. You might ask, why doesn't my own daughter work for me?She-" but Katherine wasn't listening, she was starring at Jack trying to make him understand with her eyes. His eyes darted between her and Pulitzer no doubt trying to see any family resemblance. Pulitzer kept using the word "daughter", no doubt to rub it in Jack face. She almost cried out for him when Snyder came in and Jack tried to run, the Delancey's had grabbed Jack and held him in a painful looking grasp. She wasn't even listening to her father speak anymore, all she wanted was to explain to Jack. So when her father ordered Jack to be taken into the Cellar she hurried after them.

"Stop it, you can't do this!" She told her father picking up her skirts so she could descend down the steps after him.

"And why can't I?" Pulitzer asked turning around to look at her. "He is a criminal Katherine, did you not hear what Snyder just told us?"

"That doesn't mean you have to put him in the cellar. He only stoll food and clothing, he's not dangerous!" Katherine said.

"Why are you so interested in Mr Kelly's fate?" Pulitzer asked her "He is no more than a street rat striking against me, why do you care so much?"

"I... just don't hurt him, please." Katherine pleaded not sure how to answer his question.

"You fancy him don't you?" Pulitzer asked and Katherine suddenly found herself trying to look every where but at her father.

Pulitzer let out a low cruel chuckle. "You do, awe how sweet." He said sarcastically.

"Don't-"

"I thought I raised you better than that." Pulitzer said with a shake of his head. He turned and continued to walk down the stairs, his loud foot steps echoed on the stairs and Katherine's soon followed.

"Will you just listen to me! You can't just threaten someone like that!" Katherine said following closely behind him.

"Not threaten? Katherine my dear, he has threatened my company, my billion dollar company. It is only fair I deal with him as I see fit." Her father said. Katherine let out an aggravated noise and stormed back up the stairs away from her father. There was nothing she could do, she had to brace herself for the day to come. That was all she could do.
