Talking Power
Two years ago.
11:47 pm.
In the middle of the night, in a sparsely populated area of the city of Kuoh, the sound of footsteps could be heard far away. Except for the sound of the footsteps of these two people, no one else could be seen in the city. As the sound of footsteps became louder, the two people became visible.
"So, how was the conversation with Azazel? Any clues as to what happened?" The man asked.
He had red hair and blue eyes. He was also wearing a somewhat luxurious outfit.
"He said he doesn't know anything," the woman replied.
She wore a maid's outfit, had silver hair and deep red eyes. Her expression was rather stern as they talked.
"Well, this whole thing sucks," the red-haired man complained. "I've talked to Rias-tan and her Peerage, as well as Sona's Peerage too. None of them know anything either. This all seems like a waste of time."
"Although I partially agree with that, don't act like that, Sirzechs-sama. You are one of the Maou, you should act like one," the woman scolded.
"Ah, come, Grayfia. We're far from the Underworld, why on earth should I act professional when it's just the two of us? Although I would rather be with your sister right now..." He claimed the last part as a whisper, but she heard it just the same.
"My sister had duties to do, I'm sorry if you don't like my presence."
"No!" the man shouted. "I don't dislike your presence or anything, Grayfia, really!" He seemed to be sweating as he shouted these things. They were lucky that everyone seemed to be asleep, but his noise might wake people up.
They came to Kuoh to investigate something, but they couldn't get any leads. After finishing all that damn paperwork, he finally thought he would have some free time to rest, only to be forced to investigate something soon after. Seriously, how unlucky can one person be?
"I don't think we need to stay here anymore. It's time to go back-" The woman suddenly stopped talking.
Sirzechs noticed and this and raised his eyebrows. "Grayfia?" He looked at her, only to see her looking away.
At this point, he quickly realized what she was looking at. Lights on. It would be considered quite normal for someone to be awake at these hours, even if the rest seemed to be asleep at these hours, because that was the only light on that they could see. However, there was something totally strange, he had a brief shiver when he stared at that place with the light on.
The strangest thing was what was written on the sign they could see.
A bookstore.
And it had an "OPEN" sign on the door.
Now, a bookstore is not really unusual, but the place where it was located. Thanks to the evolution of technology, along with the internet, few people really care to read books these days. Why waste time chasing a certain book when you can get what you want quickly simply by searching on the internet? The information provided is basically immediate.
Put all this together with the fact that the person decided to open the bookstore in such a sparsely populated town and also the chill he felt a short time ago. And from the way Grayfia was staring there, he assumed that she must also have felt something similar to what he felt.
