It's the day of the surgery, and in just a few minutes, Alina will be taken into the surgery room, but before that, she has a few minutes with her family. Mason walked in to the room after Alina's parents had spoken to her. They left the room to leave her alone with Mason.
"Hey," he smiled, walking over to place a kiss on her lips. "Hey," she sighed.
"You ok?" he asked, taking a seat on the bed. Alina adjusted her seat. "Just a bit nervous," she admitted.
"You'll be ok," he smiled, stroking her hair. Alina bit her lip, trying her best to keep it together but failed.
"Darling, what's going on?" Mason asked worriedly, noticing how she was about to break down.
"What if it doesn't work? What if I don't wake up or something happens?"
"Stop," Mason said, not allowing her to scare herself more. She looked at him as he cupped her face in his palms.
"Nothing is going to happen to you. I know you're scared, baby, but they've done this before. You're in safe hands, and I'm here," he assured her.
She nodded, calming herself down. "I'm sorry," she apologised as she wiped her tears. "Don't apologise; it's ok to be scared," he assured her, pulling her into a hug.
"I love you," she said, hugging him tighter.
"I love you so much more."

Before Alina was taken into surgery, the doctor reminded them risks of the surgery, saying that even if it was a safe procedure, there could still be complications. Even the risks and side effects after the surgery were listed, and that's where Mason fully went numb.
Some of the risks the doctor listed were bleeding in the neck, permanent voice loss or temporary hoarseness, and infections.
As soon as Alina was taken in for the one-hour surgery, her parents took a seat outside, waiting. But Mason went to the bathroom, completely broken, scared, and helpless. All these days in the hospital, he's had to keep his feelings locked up, but he couldn't take it anymore.
He found it stupid to be scared; he had told Alina not to be, and here he is, scared something bad will happen to her. He decided to call his mom, hoping she would calm him down.
"Mason, hello?" Debbie said, she couldn't hear a sound. Mason had broken down crying, but very quietly.
"Hello," his mom said again. He sniffled, which she heard instantly.
"Mason, sweetheart, what's going on? Is Alina ok?" She asked worried.
"She's fine," he said, trying to compose himself, "then what's going on, darling?" She asked, still concerned as to why he was crying.
"I'm just scared," his voice cracked, Debbie's heart broke at his words, she's never heard him so upset before.
"Oh, darling, you know she's going to be ok; she's a fighter," Debbie said, trying to bring up the positives.
"What if she doesn't get better afterwards? They said all these things that could happen, and I don't want her to go through any of that," he cried.
"Nothing will happen to her, I promise you," she said, almost breaking down too, but she stopped herself to calm Mason down.
"She's going to wake up, and she's going to be ok, do you hear me?" She said determined
Mason nodded, starting to calm down at his mom's words. They spoke for a bit longer until Mason was calmer and ok again.

After the one-hour surgery, Alina had woken up but was very weak and sleepy. She couldn't talk at all due to the surgery, and they had put a bandage over her scar on her throat to heal it.
Before the others could walk in and see her, the doctor gave them some information about the surgery, telling them that it was successful and that no complications had occurred.
He also warned them that it can take up to 3–4 months before she fully heals; there will be troubles talking and eating at the start, and she will feel pain in her throat, but as time goes on, she'll eventually be ok.
Mason walked in behind Alina's parents into the room, watching them hug her and shower her with kisses on her head.
As the doctor had said, Alina couldn't really talk, but she looked relieved to have them in the room with her. Mason walked forward and placed a kiss on her forehead. Alina grabbed him by the wrist, signaling for him to stay close.
"I'm not going anywhere, don't worry," he softly giggled, taking a seat on the bed, she weakly smiled at him.
The doctor walked in again, interrupting the moment, "Sorry to disturb," he smiled as he walked in. They all looked up at him. "I'm here to tell you that Alina is ready to go home later tonight; we will monitor her before, and we will go through a diet that will suit her," he looked at them
"We will also discuss the home treatment and go over some instructions. We'll book a time for follow-ups and to remove the stitches, but for now, you need to wear the bandage until it falls off itself," he looked at Alina, talking directly to her.
They all listened and nodded, letting him know that they understood. The doctor left them alone again after he had given out the information.
The only thing they could do now was wait a couple of hours before they could take Alina home.
