"Enid calm down." I tell my room mate as she paces around our shared room. "How can I calm down?" Enid asks me before sitting down on my bed. "Not only are we getting a new roomie, she's also your cousin." The girl says, throwing her body back.
"What if she hates me? What if she hates our room?" The she-wolf asks and I chuckle at her, placing my book on my side table. "Wednesday hates everything, don't take it to heart." I tell her standing up.
"Now, pull yourself together." I tell Enid, pulling the girl up and off my bed. "She can sense fear."
"What-"
Enid is cut off by the door to our room being swung open. Principle Weems walking in, followed by the rest of my family.
The three stop in the doorway taking in the colorful room. "It's so vivid." My uncle Gomes stutters into the awkwardness. Aunt Morticia's eyes find me and a smile breaks across her face.
"Oh sweet Delora!" She exclaims, opening her arms for a hug. "Hi Aunt Tish." I tell the taller women, hugging her.
"You look so much like you mother." My aunt tells me as we pull away, her placing a hand on my cheek. "Doesn't she Gomez?" The women asks her husband, turning my face to him. "A spitting imagine."
"Cousin." Wednesday says making me turn to her. "Hi Nes." I tell the girl who's glare falters at the old nickname.
"Wednesday this is our room mate, Enid." I tell my cousin, motioning for Enid to come forwards, she does, stopping beside me.
"Howdy roomie." Enid says, her excitement overcoming her. She examines Wednesday for a second before asking. "Are you feeling okay? You look a little pale."
I grab onto my friends elbow, trying to calm her down. "Wednesday's always looked half-dead." I inform her and she nods. "Oh, well, Welcome to Ophelia hall!" Enid nearly shouts at my cousin excitement running through her veins.
She goes to hug Wednesday who takes a step back. "Not a hugger, got it." Enid retreats back to her spot beside me.
"Please excuse Wednesday, she's allergic to color." Aunt Morticia tells Enid and as the girl is too trusting she asks Wednesday. "What happens to you?" I close my eyes, trying to not facepalm.
"I break out into hives and then the flesh peels from my bones." Wednesday tells her, keeping her deadpanned look. Enid cowers, looking like she's about to puke.
"Luckily we've ordered you a special uniform." Principle Weems assures Wednesday as I try too silently comfort Enid. "Girls, please take Wednesday to the registrars office to pick it up along with a copy of her schedule." Our principle orders us with a smile.
"Give her a tour along the way."
After Wednesday glares at her parents we leave our dorm, Wednesday and I walking out and Enid skipping.
"Nevermore was founded in 1791 to educate people like us." Enid explains as the three of us walk through the school. "Outcasts, freaks, monsters, fill in your favorite marginalized group here."
"You can save the sanitized sales pitch." Wednesday says making our little group come to a stop. "I don't plan on staying here long."
"Why not?" I ask my cousin, crossing my arms over my chest. "This was my parents idea." Wednesday tells us her eyes landing on a nearby photo. "Oh look, there's my mother smirking at me." She says glaring at the fencing team's photo from when our parents went here.
"They've been looking for any excuse to send me here." Wednesday explains, still glaring as people walk around us. "It's all part of their nefarious yet completely obvious plan."
