For to be free is not merely to cast off one's chains, but to live in a way that respects and enhances the freedom of others. ~Nelson Mandela
Luke's POV
I know that I had decisions to make. Based on whether or not I wanted my friends more then I wanted Kody.
And there was also Michael. While I personally did not hold any interest in him, I know that he would have preferred that I just stayed away from Kody all together.
The real question was if I could make a decision.
Yes I had all the time in the world to give Kody an answer - well apparently - but I feared that if I did not give him an answer he would become aggressive. I knew he did not want to wait. But why was he trying so hard to obtain my affections again?
While I did have time to give Kody an answer - despite his constant pestering - there was also the fact that my friends would not wait forever. They were already shoving me into a room and were ready to lock the door and walk away; in other words, they were ready to abandon me.
I know that I could not have both, but why could I not? Why was Skarlet so stubborn about the whole situation? I know Skarlet, she is indeed as sly as a fox. Something tells me she put everyone up to this.
The real question is why.
Which is why I was standing on her front step after school the very next day. I waited patiently at the door until it opened.
"Oh. You." Skarlet's voice broke through the cold air like daggers. "Can I help you?"
"I want to talk." I said, as I lifted my head to her. Skarlet's hair was hanging in waves, something I rarely saw because ninety-nine percent of the time it was straightened.
"Fine but we only have," Skarlet checked her phone. "Twenty minutes, I'm going to Barbie's house."
"Oh..?"
"Yeah she has something she wants me to try." Skarlet said. She stepped out of in front of the door, so I could walk inside.
"I see." I replied. I followed Skarlet to the living room where we sat.
"So what do you want?" Skarlet asked.
"Why is everyone ignoring me?" I asked.
"Why do you think I have the answers?"
"Because I know this would be your idea."
"What makes you say that?"
"Because you're Skarlet. That's what you do." I said and saw Skarlet smile.
"Touché." Skarlet said. "Alright yes, I told everyone to ignore you. To try and show you what happens if you're an idiot and go back with Kody."
"Yeah I see that." I sighed. "Why would you so that?"
"Are you thick-skulked?" Skarlet scoffed. "I'm trying to help you."
"What's wrong with me being with Kody?" I replied.
"He almost killed you!" Skarlet yelled as she stood up. "I'm trying to help you!"
"Why can't you just support my decisions then!"
"Cause you're gonna get yourself killed!" Skarlet yelled, I could see by the look on her face she was being sincere. Especially since her eyes welled with tears. "Maybe you should think about it a little more, but for now. Get out of my house."
"Skarlet - "
"Go Luke!" Skarlet snapped and I did not say anything. Instead just walked out of her house. My hands deep in my pockets.
